Is National Committeeman and
Factional Differences
are Settled.
Oklahoma City Aug. 1. (Special.)
After one of the most bitter contests
ever fought for supremacy the Regu-
lars of Democracy won out in electing
J. R. Jacobs national committeeman
for Oklahoma last night. Scenting
defeat Col. J. W- Johnson withdrew
the name of Jasper Sipes and his vote
went toJCapt. J. T. Taylor. When the
vote was taken the ballot stood Ja
cobs 130; Taylor GG. Taylor moved
that ;the election of Jacobs be made
unanimous.
The permanent organization of the
convention was affected last night
and W. C. Oardwell of Custer county
was elected permanent chairman by a
vote 114 to 89.
The convention met this morning at
10 o'clock and took up consideration
of the joint conference report offered
by the Populist9 providing for a joint
convention with'equal representation
of both the Democratic and Populist
parties.
A joint platformwith no caucusing
was 'debated for two hours by tho
fusion and anti-fusion force3. Col. R.
B. Forrest of El Reno made a bitter
attack upon fusion and the joint con-
ference report. Deaton of Garfield
county offered a substitute for the con-
ference report asking for the appoint-
ment of a new conference committee.
On a vote the conference
unanimously carried.
report was
The central committeemen for tho
various counties were selected after
which the convention adjourned to
meet at 1:30 p m. in joint convention.
It is believed that Forest is now out
of trie race and that the nomination if
it goes to a democrat it will be Wil
liam Cross or a dark horse. The popu
lifct3 are pushing tho claims of W. O.
Cromwell of Enid while Bob Neff of
Kay county seems to ba a strong can-
didate. A new candidate in the popu-
list lines entered the race this morn-
ing. It is Dr. Delos Walker of this
city.
All factional difficulties appear to
be buried now after the great battle
for national committeeman.
The committes were composed of
one from each county selected as fol-
lows: CREDENTIALS.
