GEN. JAMISON WITHDRAWS
And in n Letter Give Some Tainted and
Tone Heinous for mo Doing.
Gen. J. 0. JamlBon has withdrawn
from tho raco for dolcgato to tho Kan-
sas City convention. Ills reasons for
so doing are given in tho following
card:
To tho Democrats of Logan County :
When tho Democratic national com-
mittee selected Kansas City as the
place for holding tho national conven-
tion I cxptessed a wish to bo a dele-
gate and gavo some o( tho reasons
which Influenced my candidacy. My
appeal was to tho Democrats of Logan
county. As tho Populists had called
county and territorial conventions and
appointed delegates to attend a na-
tional convention called by their
national committee I did not suppose
that that party would participate in
the Democratic primary to elect dele-
gates to a Democratic county conven-
tion ; but la this it appears that I was
mistaken and ray opponent seems to
have bean the bcnuQclary of such coal-
ition even to tho extent of the editor
of the Populist paper assuming the
championship of Mr. Wisby.
In addition' to this and the snap
gamo played in several of tho city
wards in tho calling of the ward
mcot'ugs at different hours In
oiccting and instructing tho dele-
gations iu some of the wards
even in advanco of the
hour named in the call by the hench-
men of my opponent they sent broad-
cast over the county tho charges that
1 was tho candidate of a certain news-
paperLthat I was anti-Bryan dead set
agalnsC the Chicago platform a gold-
bug Democrat and laBtly that my
fealty to tho Democratic party and
its principles wcro not sufficiently
plastic to fit mo to sit as a delegate in
tho Democratic national convention.
This last charge being elaborated and
embellished by the Populist organ
whose editor held Mr. "Wisby's um-
brella in tho primaries. All these
woro used In certain localities and in
whispers where It was thought they
would do tho most good but in none
of them did tho circulators of these
malicious falsehoods ussumo their
authorship but invariably whtepored
them into the ear of the listener that
thoy came from ''perfectly reliable
sources." Tho author of the lie that
I was a candidate of a certain element
knew that he lied when he uttered
the falsehood as ho knew it to be a lie
when he gave prominence to tho story
that I was not for Mr. Bryan and tho
Ohicago platform for I can without
egotism or arrogance say that I havo
written and published under my own
natuo and editorially more in favor of
Bryun and tbo reafllrmance of the
Chicago platform than any other one
man in this territory oven insisting
that the national delegation should bo
instructed for both.
I have never before solicited politi-
cal favors from the territory or Logan
county Democracy or played to the
galleries for a "vindication" from
something or somebody as an excuse
to inflict myself upon the party being
content to servo it in tho ranks and to
which I havo devoted a life service und
for which I have no pangs or regret
Chronic sores who are continually be-
fore the pcoplo aro not unusual In par-
tics and they appear periodically upon
the surface and begin to fester and ef-
fervesce whenever tho atmosphere
bhows signs nf boing Impregnated
with the odor of an approaching elec-
tion and at once they become imbued
with tho idea that they aro entitled to
a "vindication" and forthwith start
the prelude to the'gallerles while the
procession passes in review.
I aspired to bo a delegate through
the suffrage of my fellow Democrats
and not from tho adherents of any
other party and since it appears that
this was not the rule and as I havo
nothing from which I care to bo "vln
dicatcd" my namo will not be presen-
ted to tho Logan county convention
on the 2Gth of April.
