Courier hero has the following A
picture In tho window of T. M. Finney
& Co. has a historical interest which
oven its blugular character does not
indicate. It is an olargoment of tliu
photograph of Kali wall-ho Isa or
Uray Horse as he was known
among white men. Orny Horse died
somo eight years since after a long
and turbulent existence. Ho was a
full blooded Osage after whom the
trading post of dray Horse and the
creek upon uhoso bankB it is located
were named Whon this trading post
was started a council of Indians of
the locality was called and all of them
refused to give the ground upon which
to locate the store except Qruy Horse
and he pointed out tho place which he
would give on his property and thord
it was built and lias since remained
Old dray Horse was pretty fr sky in
lils youth and ho paid a penalty at ono
time which nearly - A him his lite.
Ho wai out with a party hunting buf-
falo when a party of ChoyeniicB fell
upon them am) gave them battle. Ho
was left upon the field for dead and
as was their ciistomo they carried
away his scalp as a trophy as the fight.
He recovered afterward and was
nursed back to health. His scalpless
head he was proud to exhibit as a
sign of his fortitude and great vitality.
Ho always rodo a mountain burro
during his latter ycais and when the
original of the picture In Finney's
window was taken he was astride his
burro with his ritlu across his mount's
neck his tomahawk in his hand his
bow and arrows slungaeross IiIubIiouI-
ders and war rogalia in his hoadidross.
Ho was a medicine man and attended
she sick Osage to whom he admlnls
tcred roots and herbs and various In-
cantations for their physical Ills. The
picture was made for a blood relative
who wanted a lluenoss of the redoubt-

Denver Col May !). If the huge
buildings reported by Dr Camden M
Coborn of Trinity Methodist church of
tilts city within 100 south of Maueos
Col. proves to be what he thinks It Is
ono of the most important archeologl-
cal dhcoverles of the last half century
has been mude
Dr. Coberu returned this morning
from a lo ueeliu' trip to the south-
ern and western part of the state.
During hi absimc he spent five days
In Maueos valley examining the caves
of the Oliir Dwellers and it was wlillo
there that he found wonderful houses
far away in tho almost Inaccessible
mountain fastnostios.
Ho describes ono placo ps several
stories in height made of stone and
containing hundreds of rooms. The
chambers ho sayb were utterly dark
having no windows or aperluros for
tho admission of light and were con-
nected by only one door which gave
admission from tho oulhido to the
gloomy succession of rooms within.
Those according to Dr. Coborn
looked like temples or rooms of a tem-
ple . and a torch revealed thut tho
walls woro covered with painted sym-
bols and characters. In the corners
of the rooms and in niches there were
statues and imuges made of pottery
gayly painted. On tho lloor were
earthenware Jars and vessels.
