It is a villinnous slander that those

InE8ii)iT MoKixkry has bad
enough of Oklahoma Republicanism
and has appointed a carpetbagger
from Illinois to take Judge Tarsnoy's
place on the bench.

proval of everybody excopt the clerks

Sknatok Hutto's manifesto to Pres-
ident MoKinlcy will have about the
harae forco and effect that a baby car-
riage would have in resisting a loco-
motive with a full bead of steam on.
Those legislative railroad passes
don't contain a single word about any
obligation to be liberal to the rail-
roads all the statements going the
rounds to the contrary notwithstand-
ing. Tin: home rule plank In tho Repub-
lican national platform is like all the
other provisions and pledges of that
party. It Is all right for catching
votes but not worth counting when
the votes bavo been boused.
Ills narao in full Is Clinton Festive
lrvin and he comes ranting all the
way from "Illlnlso" to give eclat to
tho judicial ermine of Oklahoma and
incidentally tench a fow things to the
opaquo and benighted bench.
It has always boon known in this
territory that Oklahoma Republican-
Ism was rotten to the core and the ap-
..potntta.cn V at a carpetbagger confirms
tbo fact that the president was in
possession of the samo information.
Tjiejik will be a bill introduced to-

A year from next fall Missouri will
elect a republican governor and a re-

a better estimate of tho capability and
worthiness of Oklahoma Republicans
than he has been goncrally credited
with and has gone to Illinois for
timber to round out tho territorial
judiciary In the person of Clinton F.

Thk ono particular bright Btar in
Oklahoma Republican politics ono
who never need inako an apology Is
district attorney Sam Overstreet. Sam
never mixes in anybody else'c business
excopt as a friend. He wants ouly a
little audacity to make him tbo big-
gest Republican in Oklahoma. Wich-

In appointing Oilnton Festive Irvln

Oklahoma tho president was doubt-
less actlg from the best information
before him and in tho light of the
present Killkcnny fight among tho
Oklahoma Republicans he ought not
to bo held to too 6trict a compliance
with other notional pledges on homo
rule.
Thk appointment of an Illinois
carpetbagger to tbo Oklahoma asso
ciate judgeship illustrates Congress-
man Grosycnor's assertion on the
floor of congress that free homes and
home rule and all that sort of thing
In tho Republican national platform
were shams to catoh votos and were
never intended to bo taken seriously.
Congressmen Orosvenor is pretty
good republican authority.

the territory to statehood. He ought to

The Reporter is in favor of single
statehood from a financial standpoint.
Wo can't imagine why tho masses of
the people bore object to being joined
onto Oklnhoma unless they prefer to
paying double tho amount of stato

city and school tax will bo as heavy a
burden as they will bo willing to bear.

The State Capital ssys : " Well this

tion Is when? It will cost no more to
hold It before than after the constitu-
tion Is ratified by congress." That Is
not tho question and the Stato Capital
knows It and Ib only juggling with tho
real issue. Tho real and only objection
is as to holding these elections and in
curring an expense to tho taxpayers of
from SCO 000 to J75000before congress
says whether it will give us statehood.
That's tho issuo and nothing else. It
makes a mighty sight of difference
with the purchaser when ho pays out
his money for nn artlclo whether he
gets what ho bought or not. If you
hold tbeso elections at an enormous
cost to tho taxpayers and after all
congress declines to give them state-
hood pray tell us what these taxpay-
ers have got in return for their money?
