The houses ot the Fifth legis'ativc assembly of Oklahoma
began grinding this afternoon ae 2 o'clock.
Both houseu were filled with visitors who manifested much
interest in the preceedings.
All members were present in both houses and very little
time was wasted on prelim naries.

The house was called to order at 2 o'clock by "vV.H Mcrten.
McElrath of GarQ.ld placed in nomination for temporary
speaker of the house the name of C. t. Jones of Oklahoma
City. McE'rath escorted Mr Joneto the speaker's seat where
Mr. Jones was introduced by Mr Merten. Mr. Jones delivered
a neat address Rev. 0. W. Sherwood of Union City invoked
divine blessing.
Mr. Harthorn placed in nomination Judge Stevens' of King-
fisher county as temporary secretary. A roll caU by the sec-
retary showed al members prese t M M -rten moved that a
committee of live be appointed by th clidir to examine the roll
call and file the certificates of election. Merten Doyle. Harts-
horn Hadley and Olmst'-ad wer- appoint- d on 'his committee.
At 2:20 a recess of tw ntv minutes was taktn.
COUNCIL.
At the hour of 2:07 p. m the Council met.
Hon. A. J Biddison was chosen temporary chairman and O.
G. Palmer temporary clerk.
On motion of Hon. H K. Havens a committee of three on
credentials was appointed consisting of Councilors Havens
Hutto and Ganison.
Upon report of the committee on credentials Chaplain
Nicholas offered a fervent and appropriate prayer.
Boll of the councilors whs then called by Chief Clerk
Palmer when Ch'.ef Justice John II. Burford administered the
oath ot office.
Then followed the nomination for Presilent. the Republi-
can caucus nominee Hugh McCred e. receiving 8 votes and the
Fusion Democratic nominee Hon. Sidney Clarke 5 votes
President McCredie made a brief address in which he
promised to rule impartially and urged all the. councilors to
combine their efforts for the best interests of the whole people.
On motion of Senator Biddison ail the caucus nominees were
declared elected. A committee of three was appointed to noti-
fy the house that the council -was organized and ready for busi-
ness. A similar committee was appointed to notify the govern-
or. A committee consisting of Senators Brett Winkler Mag-
ness and the President was appointed on joint rules to act
with a similar committee from the house.
At 8:30 the council took a reces- for 30 minutes.
Throughout the proceeding? of the afternoon the best of
feeling and order prevailed.

kindly took in and cared for her has
been made tho victim of tho deaf and
dumb girl Itatherinc Kintz alias Cos-
tolla Stenbeldyker but whoso real
name is Hattio Legates who robbed her
kind benefactress during her tempo-
rary nbsenco and loft for parts un-
known. Katkerino loft while Mrs. McGregor
was away visiting and whilo tho clerk
was asleep. She was teen walking
down tho road toward Yukon and later
was seen in El Reno lly this time
Mrs. McQrcgor had missed her watch
and ring. Stio did not say anything
about It perhaps because she was
ashamed to own that Bhu was so badly
sold after being fairly warned. Mrs.
McGregor was told by tho newspapers
