Capt. J. A. Gsrton of the eighth car
airy who has been stationed at Fort
Sill Ok. puhtod through Washington
recently on his way to llunUville
wLere his regiment has boen ordered.
The principal duty of Capt. Gaston's
command has been guardlug the oap
tured Apuehee. Uo speaks in high
terms of the Apaehes and says they
are nearer civilisation now tl uu mp.uy
of the tribes which have been eared
for by the government but not by the
army.
The reason for retaining the post
at Sill Is to guard these Iodians. It
is a very unhealthy post and many a
soldier's grave attests title fact. More
ttian thirty men iu Osptalu Gaston's
troop were sick at one time and only
the most patient care saved their
lives.
Capt tisston thinks that troops will
be needed la Oklahoma to prevent
trouble by the Comanche and ICiowas.
The Indians have beeu drawing regu-
lar annuities from the government up
to the present time but these have
now ceased and they have not the
means of maintaining tbemselres
There are likely to be raids upon
the stock of the white men in the
vlelnlty when the Indians become hungry-
l)ujs of llesifilrnliou.
Next Monday nnd Tuesday the
voters of Guthrie must register If they
wish to vote at the forthcoming 'No-

The Leader last Friday contained a
list ot Repnbllcin tax-dodgers but it
did not print them all Tho list it did
print however hit the republican man
agers on the solar plexus. I hey hav
never snoken. grnnned or tquealed
since. It laid them out. Tho list was
headed by his excellency. Gov. Harnes
who bad ovcr'ooked a littlo Item of
$1.60 since 1891. This was followed by
Attornoy General Cunningham who
for some reason hsd failed to liquidate
an Item of S3. 10 whleh has stood on
the books against him since 1891 This
was loiioweo by others ana lesser
lighta.but the evidences of ncgloctor
favoritism on the part of county olll.
cers was so complete that the republi
can managers and candidates wero
forced to Unore the mattor altogether
not so with the tax payorB
Thoy has been wondering and ques-
tioning the reason for all this. They
wanted to know why these prominent
men bare not been called upon for
the earrears nnd made to put up
Thoy ure going to continue 'oqurs
tlon the cond ot of the presont and
past county fllrlals of Loga i county
and seo to it that a different net of
men are oluotod to m nage tho coun-
ty's affairs. The facts as printed were
a inat'or of record os nro tho facts
priutod bolow. Tliore was no guess
work or unverified statemonte made
nothing but stern and Indisputable
facts were printed Republicans know
this This piper Is not dealing In mis-
leading and false statements. It pro-
poses to tell tho truth so far fin Its
political enemies aro corccrnod. It
has no fault to find wltha republican as
uch but it Is n republican as an oQlcial
past pretcnt and prospective that it
has to deal. This is what thovotoris
interested in He wauts to sec men in
ofllco who w.ll do their respectlvo du-
ties regardless of party. Tho Ropub-
llcatl otlleials of Logan ciunty have
not been doing this. Certain man have
been favored. The poor men the
laborer tho blaek man and the widow
have been forced to pay their taxes.
The last cow has often been sold in
the bUtory of Logan county families
to pay the taxes whilo the big-bug
politicians have been permitted to
o o.i pe the payment of all or a part of
their taxoe. There are $30000 delin-
quent porsonal taxes now on tho tax
books of this county. Who&e fault Is
it? Somobody Is to blsme ' Who could
It be but the olUcialn whose business it
is to collect the taxes.
Today another chapter In this tax-
dodging story is printed ; another list
of Republican tax dodgers is printod.
This list Is headed by United Slatoi
Attornoy Sam Ovorstrcet: Mr Over-
street is a good fellow. Everybody
suyB so. "As mild a mannered man as
ever scuttled a ship or cut a
throat" but his Republican friends at
the cours house diden't think it court-
osy to call on Mr. Ovorstrrot for his
taxi's. He owos Logan couuty tho fol
io wing aums: 1SD4 SO.sO; 1805 $13.91;
anl IBi)7$10 10.
Mr. CaiOrmor has been a special pot
of Logan county otlleials as ho has
one would conclude nevor paid a cent
of taxes in the county. Hero Is his
rocord: 1891 S3; 1892 80. 7; 1893
51 35; li91 $8 33; 1895 $3.98; 189S
82.33; 1897 $3. SB. The only thing that
Orner has donu towaras holping the
county out In rogard to his tax Is that
ho porsuaded the assessor to not assess
him so high henae a reduction ot his
taxoB from 88 92 in 05 to 88.88 In 97.
To Mr. Ornur's credit i' can bo said
that for about six months of his stay
In Oklahoma ho has not held olllcc.
Kuputy Auditor MaCabc has not
paid up but t is no fault of his. Ho
would hovo done so it the republican
county otlleials had not boon afraid of
olTending him by calling on him tor
his texts Rut in their dusiro to get
along with Mac without a rupture they
have permitted him to remain on tho
books as a tax-dodger. Here Is his
acuonnt: 1893 $3.58; 189C $2 38; 1897
$2 ii.
Mr. J. W. Sootborn Mr. Overstrect's
very able and vigorous assistant os-
caped the payment of 3 92 In 1893.
Mr. Dan Wlbnor city attorney of
Guthrie has faded to liquidate kia tax
for 1895 In the sum ot $14.70 and 1S96
far $0.71.
M. It. I. Saddler J. P. ropubltoan
politician should act Justly with tho
couuty before he undertakes to deal
out Jostle to others. Here Is his de-
linquent tax account. 1893 So.50;
1894 $4 81 1890. $3.30; 1897 $4.83.
Voters the above is the record.
What do you think of it? If you pay
your own ta.e you no doubt believo
in others doing the some ltellact be-

will convince all comers we have enough on hand to supply every family in Guthrie with their Fall Dress Goods.
Having bought in large quantities for three other stores besides our Guthrie house we secured the lowest bedrock
prices on everything and our quotations during this sale will in many instances be lower than importers' whole-
sale prices on fabrics. Below we quote you our sale prices. They are beyond the whisper of comparison or com-
petition. They are below any prices ever quoted in this city by ;tnv house. Like magic they will crowd this
store with people and make this week one of the greatest Dress Goo'ds and Silk Sales in Guthrie's existence.
