commenc 'd arriving on this side of Hid

they marched off the steamers the aides
if the Red Cross society appointed them-
selves leaders and headed the travel-
weury soldiers to the headquarters of thm
soilelv. where eatables and drinknbles
awaited them. Not a man was allowed
go away hungry and to say that the
boys were pleased with their reception
Is putting It mildly but to crow.i the evi-
dences of good will displayed by the ladles
of the lied Cross each bi'.1w was pre--tenled
with a small bouquet of California
(lowers. These tokens were placed In Hie
barrels of their rifles and ns the men
marched up Market street the flower-
tipped destroyers added greatly to th
attractive appearance of the men.
The troop marched through the city
stri '- toward Camp Richmond all morn
ing and every detachment waa received
with cheers and volleya of flowers.
Today arrival marched in better or-
ler than most of their predecessors and
every regiment had a band there was
plenty of martial music.
Minnesota turned out the finest body of
men so far aa physique Is concerned.
Over a thousand men represented that
tate and they were an exceedingly clean
and orderely lot and marched with the
air und precision of regulars.
Colorado turnel out the greatest num
her of men and they were the best equip-
ped. They lacked nothing In the wuy of
outfits und their band la the best thai
haa arrived here with the eastern troops.
Their soldierly bearing attracted great
admiration and mingled with the regimen-
tal cry of the Colorado boys were I ho
cheers of thousand of Interested specta
tors.
Kansas is represented by four comiutn-
lea numbering about Sou men. The Kan-
sas men are mostly "raw" recruits but
have been drilled so of'.on as possible
since leavttHT thetr native state and are
now quite proficient In military tut tics
The regiment Is designated as the Twen-
tieth ICgngaa following the Nineteenth
Kunsaa which was the last regiment sent
to the civil war by that state. Two
other regments from Kansas have Itcen
sent to Chickiimnuga park.
