HI 113 LKAHKS Ol'KN LETTBIt.
Your aunt Mary Lease has provallcd
again. When your aunt Mary is not
prevailing sho 1b absent-minded. Aunt
Mary 1b a surging swirl of human emo-
tions It 1b her desire now to become
involved in a newspaper fight and have
her name inserted in stock ultimatums
and flung to tho world. Sho writes an
open letter to The Lkadkr which is
published in tho Wichita Eagle of
Saturday It is a characteristic Leaso
epistle nnd ladened with bile and
vitriol Mary Yollln somehow stayed
at homo long onough to gain tho Ill-
founded impression that Tils Lkadki?
hat Impugned her honesty. Tub
Lkadku has done nothing of tbo sort.
Far from it. Mrs. Leaso explains har
own false impression in her own open
letter but fulls to mention the fact
that after liquidating a paltry 31 hotel
bill in this city she charged around in
a very unwomanly manner lambasting
tho Perkins fair association tor making
her trouble and causing her an outlay
of one dollar which should have been
liquidated by the association. On this
occasion the good damo was filled to
the gunnels with Imprecations which
he hurled with savage ferocity
at her poor driver. For five
minutes sho f urnUhcd interesting en-
tertainment at tho hotel offlce and
scored a decided hit as a vaudovllle
Boubretto In tragic roles finally retir-
ing to her room muttering cursoa on
Oklahoma aud all itB peoplo and de
claring she would novormore not foot
on Oklahoma soil. So thorol Mrs.
Leaso's consuro of take correspondents
la eminently proper. She can't do
enough ot it to suit Oklahoma. But
shq t overtaxes human endurance in
recklessly rushing Into print with an
offer of 8100 to llood sufferors if Til it
Leadkh will furnish proof that she
over bilked a boCei or got two punches
in onohoio on a ple-tlekct. The
Leju&QTTs willintr to undertake almost
fny task to obtain succor for llood
victims but when Mrs Mary asks the
Leader to comb tho hotel registers of
the union In order to ascertain
whethor she ever bricked a trunk cut
a dido on a tire escape or tightenod
her waist In ordor tu squeeze a rebate
on a regular board bill we fear llood
sufferers will bavo to go shy a hundred
plunks Not that the Loader holloves
Mrs. Mary has done any of these
things. Perish the thought! tu
these women reformora who allow their
heads to run to tongue and go gadding
about tho country day after day talk-
ing for publication when tho brlc-a-bric
at home is using sold to pay for
the daughter's muslo lessons are sub-
ject to all sorts of vagaries in their
ha&to to catch the train for tho next
town. Furthermore in the case
of Mrs. Lesbe Tun Lkaujii refuses to
accept tho SloO offer slncc we have no
tangible evidence that Bbe ovor con-
tracted a hotel bill legally. In her
ten year's travels she has obtained
llttlu more than mere shelter at a
hotel and that costs nothing. In her
campaign of reform Mrs. Lepui be-
lieves that too much talking is impos-
sible henco she talks when sbo
should eat and talks in hor sleep. In
making a continuous performance ot
her blubber she eays none of tho
comforts of a hotel (neither do the
guests In her proximity) and hence
cannot legally bo taxod for what she
does not get. '
No Mrs. Lease may' keep her 8100-
tonguo money wrung from the hand
ot wrinkled toll and plutocratic scor-
pions at so much per wring. We can
do nothing for her. Thoro are too
many hotels in thla country and by
the tltno tho soarah for tho proof was
ended all tho flood sufferers would be
6elf-sustaiulug and tho 8100 of no use.
Moreover wo believe there Is a string
tied to that 9100.
Mother Lease is too prone to step in
frost of herself. Sbo should uiako a
bed ot her curses He down aud think
horizontally for awhilo or efte let out
her think-bin. Either remedy is restful.
