ited yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock
by u terrific cyclone thut did n grent

The wind otune from the soulliwiwt
and blow at about .lxty miles an hour
for nearly twenty minutes tenrlng
down trees or splitting them itsundor
with terrific force. Peroral large elec
tric light tower wore blown down
causing a Ions of some 31.000 or S.I. 00(1
In ns much an the iron frames were
twisted us though they were of the
very smallest wire mid will bo useless.
In addition to this quite a number of
house in tho ntsidonou portion of the
city were blown down and in several
cases narrow escapes from death are
reported.
The roofs of a number of residences
were torn off mid blown u grout dis-
tance and In addition to doing much
dttumgo to tho state university the
wind blew otf the entire roof of the ad-
joining dormitory lottiny the rain
drive full into tho four story bnlldlng
doing inestimable damage to tho
building and tho property of the 800
student therein many of whom lied
for their lives when the roof was car-
ried away. The roof was carried 100
yards lighting on and crushing the
roof of a cottngo in which four people
wore seated but none wore 07011 In-
jured though they were entombed by
falling debris.
The small town of ClorUsvtllc near
this olty. wns swept by the winds and
many horses were killed by Hying de-
bris whllo 11 number of small houses
wore blown down though fortunutoly
tho Inmates were not killed but
several were budly mulmed. With tho
terrific wind cumo a driving rain that
was little .short of a flood and swept
everything before lL Persons arriving
on tho evening trains tell reports from
the surrounding country tiro to the ef-
fect that the storm was generuliu this
section.
The little town of lluda near here
was roughly handlod by tho storm
quite a number of houses beiug blown
down and one or two petsous killed.
The storm wits over in an hour and
the sun came out as brightly as
though nothing had happened.
At Calvert an old lady and two chil-
dren who were in their house wero
fatally Injured by tho collapse of tho
building which was partially de-
stroyed by lire notwithstanding tho
torrents of ruin which wore falling.
Tho loss to property in and around
Calvert is estimated atSloo.000.

u large supply of food and medicine.
The entire expedition whs fitted out
by the Cuban junta forGeneral Garciu
tho second in command in the Cuban
arm unit was landed in the province
of Santiago do Cuba where a largo
force had been sent to meet and con-
voy the supplies to tht) headquarters of
the army in the Interior.

ried this afternoon tho latter In fact
was deeply so Tho fight for the gov
ernorshlp'of Oklahoma during tho past
fifty hours has assumed a vitriolic
form. Fiynn this morning made a
personal call on Reed. They wcro to
gether an hour. Ab 2 o'clock Dingloy
of Maine and Steele of Indiana called
at the white House. At .1 o'clock Gen-
oral Clayton was summoned by Mc-
(Clnley. All theso calls were "dove-
tallers." Klyun wanted action and
MeKinley llatly told Clayton that
Flynn must be conciliated. Flynn ro
fuses to have anything but the. gov-
ernorship. He cannot now got on tho
Dawes commission and ho knows It.
He spurns the marshal. hip. MoKiuley
