Parade OfT for Wlufleld Today.
The members of the First Regiment
baud will leavo this morning for Win-
field thirty strong to atlonil tho
southwestern band tournament. The
band is in splendid condition and will
do Oklahoma proud.
The band yesterday signed a eon-
tract to march In the carnival parades
at Kansas City tills fall. A remarka-
ble feature of this engagement Is the
faut that this band was chosen from
among a field of sixty-two competitors
to lead the Rarnlval Krewe tho
Flower Parade and the Stockmen's
Phantasmogoria; while it will take
second place in the parade of Pallas
Athene the noted Light Guard band
of Carthage Mo. being first. The
location ot a band in these parades Is
of utmost importance and providing
the local band llics a brilliant banner
Oklahoma will recoivo a liberal share
of advertising. Uandmastors regard
location and banners tho essential
features for success and the local
band should loso no time in providing
itself with a banner bearing the
magic word "Oklahoma." The
Light Guard band of Carthage
with talented Charley Dumars at its
head is not only the best band In tho
west but it also carries the finest ban-
ner. This band has advertised Carthago
in this country and across the water.
The First regiment band has now an
opportunity to got to tho frent and It
should earnestly load itself for the
initial trial.

The Apple Yield Lighter.
Kansas Citv Ma Sept 14. Re-
ports from the fruit belt of South
Missouri and Arkansas Indicate that
the applo crop this year will bo far
short of last year's yield. The esti-
mate of the department of agriculture
places the applo crop of that section
at about sixty-four nor cent of what
it was last year. This estimate Is be-
lieved by the fruit growers to be In ex-
cess of what trie real crop will net.
They believe that the yield of good
apples will amount to little more than
half of last year's crop.
