CAN'T EVADE RESPONSIBILITY.
The sweeping denial by the press committee
that the republican party has ' ever been responsible
for what has been done appears rather too broad to be
strictly true when it is -remembered that the party
has had as many as three aldermen and a mayor at
one time. You reflect on your own people when you
say such things as this gentlemen. These men bore
some responsibility when in office if they counted for
anything at all and if they counted for nothing how
couH you argue that even twice as many nonentities
could do anything.
"The two republican aldermen can do nothing"
you say. It they can do nothing it is presumed that
they have done nothing. Here again you do th.ess
gentlemen an injustice. You seem to have the sim-
plicity to think that the council divides on political
lines on every question that arises. If you know any
thing at all about the workings of that body you
know that rarely is such the case Very seldom is a
question having any political bearing presented. On
most questions the aldermen vote according to the
views they may hold on the subject. If a measure
passes or faifs to pass a republican who votes for or
against it is much responsible as his democratic col
league.
The Express has kept tab on the votes of both
democrats and republicans and can show where re
sponsibility for pirticular measures lies if necessary.
Please pass a few more facts press committee
if you have any that are more significant than your
last bunch but don't make the mistake of thinking
that you have a monopoly of facts. If you are really
anxious forsome hot ones the Express can give you
some that will set you to thinking.
' '
IT is the easiest thing in' the world to juggle a
few figures into meaning most anything. Bare figures
frequently lie if you don't read between the figures.
Nobody will be deceived by the representations made
by the republican press committee.
! A strong light is being made by the republicans
throughout Indian Territory to make a good showing
j in the city elections this spring. They realize that
it will do much to strengthen their party organization
and prepare them for the real political battles that
will come in the near future when statehood is an ac-
complished fact. They well know that they have a
hard fight before them to carry out their plans for the
capiure of the new state and they are working hard
in every city and hamlet peifecting their organization
and drilling their forces. Do the democrats ofChick-
asha wish to asssst them? We think not. A few
weak-kneed faint-hearted democrats there may be
who are not onto the game and who will be deceived
by the promises and specious pleading into support
ing their candidates. All good democrats will see
the situation as it is and will be found doing their
duty next Tuesday.
Our friend of Venice also finds that the repub
licans of Chickasha are exceedingly friendly to labor
they say so in their platform. It depends however
uoon the ward you are in. In the second ward a sup
posed union labor man is nominated and a set of reso
lutions adopted to catch the labor vote. In the first
ward a man as named ivno nas Deen running an
"unfair" (non-union.) store. Suck double dealing
is not calculated to impress the voter very strongly
with the sincerity of the party that is posing as the
fritnd of organized labor. "On Looker" is advised
to take another lookThe republican press committee got busy yes-
terday and handed out a bunch of ; ''facts" for the
edification of the Express. It was a highly re
freshing productun and ludicrous only when viewed
on the light of what its authors intended a presenta-
tion of facts.
Press Committee:
"The council has been overwhelmingly democrat
ic from the incorporation of the town and never since
then has the republican party been responsible for
j anything that has been done.' ' This stout denial of
responsibility for anything done since the incorpora
tion of the town raises an interesting query as to
whether the party was responsible or anything be
fore that time.
"The express well knows that the republican
platform promises no golden paving of the streets"
says the press committee. Charming naivete isn't
it? Surely you don't accuse us of misrepresenting
you simply because we gave a slightly figurative
form to some of your big street improvement -talk.
But perhaps you didn't mean what you said in the
first place and perhaps it isn't clear in your own
mind what you mean now.
. "
Pesss committee chargesjthe Express with dish-
ing up half-truths to the voters of Chickasha. Very-
glad to hear the admission from such a source that
they are even half-truths. The fact is that even if
as much as a fourth of the plain unvarnished truth
were dealt out the pretensions of our hungry republi-
can friends would take a big back -set;
'
If people keep on objecting pretty soon there
will be nothing tor Mr. Rockefeller to do but tliiow
his money to the birds. And that's one thing he has
moral scruples against. New York World.
. .
A "Looker On in Venice" seems to have had a
terrible nightmare the other night. His lucubra-
tions are equally as lucid as the mud on the streets of
"Venice."
