Wlllium (ireer Harrison ut the I it die-

mystery of 'Jack the Ripper" was no
longer a mystery among the scienlinV
inon of Ijowlon or the detectives of
Scotland Yard He said that the asaas
sin was a medical man of high stand-
ing ami extensive practice Shortly
efore the lieirinning of the White-
chapel murder he developed an un-
natural mania for causing pain Then
the Whitechapel murders tilled London
with horror The wife noticed that
tin each occasion her husband was ab-
sent. Finally she laid her suspicions
before medical friends and IIms detec-
tives were called in ami a complete
chain of evidence against the doctor
was secured 'I hey then told him that
he was the maniac who had done all
the murders. He declared the impossi-
bility of the accusation but confessed
that of late tears there were gaps in
the twenty-four hours of which lu pos-
itively had no recollection
The necessary papers were made out
and the murderer wits committed to an
insane asylum lr Howard said also
that the physician butcher had become
a ravin maniac after his Incarcera-

atate vs. Nathan MaUeaahelmer who
was convicted in the .hi Louis criminal
court of counterfeitin the "Ualoa
label" of the ngarraakers' union w
decided in the state court of appeals
yesterday. The opinion reverses the
rnllng of t he lower court oa the ground
that a trade mark must be a mark
or label used bv a certain party to
designate his goods. The "Tniou label"
i not a trade mark It is one
of the indispensable requisites to
a valid trade mark that It should point
out the true orhrin of ownership of a
vendible commodity to which It I
fited. Thl label does not have this
quality. This association adopted the
label as a trade mark without own'nr
or drilling in any goods to which it
roust be attached therefore no title to
it as a trade mark can accrue. For this
reason a person cannot lie convicted of
counterfeiting a trade mark. This
court however holds that an injunc-
tion and damage suit can be laid under
similar circumstances provided it is
proven that the label is placed on non-
union jrood
