years and more has surrounded the
murder of John V. Gates brother
Gilbert Gates has been cleared and
Alexander Jester a preacher the
accused has confessed to the mur-
der accord i iik to information re-
ceived in this city.
Gates was killed in Iltilan'slaue
in Atulniiucouuty Mo. in January
1871. He was traveling overland
with Jester the latter exhibiting in
cvciytowna trained buffalo calf.
Jester was captured in Kansas by

father a few weeks after with his
:-ou's belongings including team
chillies and watch. He was taken
to Mexico Mo. and shortly after
i-si aK.d from jail and was not found
until twenty-six years later when
his sistci Mrs. Col nelius Street
divulged to John V. Gates his

Gates look a special train with
detectives captured Jester and
placed him in the Ralls county jail
whcie in July I'jou. after a four
weeks' sensational trial he was ac-
quitted owing to the absence of the
corpus delect i of the case. Forty-
eight hours after his acquittal he
practically admitted to a St. Louis
newspaper cut respondent his guilt
but a pledge was exacted that he
would never tell the story until
Jester's death G11 his death died
tt is claimed Jester admitted killing
Gates by cutting his throat and

ed an ordinance calling and provid-

er troubles. Interment occurred day of September 1904 for tie
yesterday in the city cemetery.

elected Alderman and Councilman
from the first ward of said city of
Chickasha to serve for a term of
two yeats;

and give notice that a sjccial elec-
tion will be held iu the first ward
of the city of Chickasha I. T. on
the nd day of Sept. 1904 for the

per cent per annum payable semi-
annually maturing twenty years
from the date of issue procesed
from the sale of such bonds to be

the payment liquidation and fund-
ing of outstanding script of said
city and
Whereas by the terms ot said
ordinance the mayor of said city of j
Chickasha is required 'to give at
least thirty days public notice of
the time and place of holding such
election. .
Now therefore I R- N. Mur-
phy mayor of the city of Chicka-
sha Southern District of the In-
dian Territory hereby proclaim
and give notice that a special elec-
tion will be held in the said city of
Chickasha I. T. on the 2nd day
of September 1904 for the ptirtose
of determining whether the" city
council of said . city of Chickasha
shall cause to be issued bonds to
the amount of $22000.00 bearing-
interest at the rate of 5 per cent
H.-r annum from date of issue pay-
able semi-annually and maturing in
twenty years; the proceeds from the
sale of such IjoikIs to be used for
the puqose of paying liquidating
and funding the outstanding script
of said city.
All parties yotiugatsuch election
for the issuance of said bonds shall
have written or printed on ticket
'for the issuance of funding bonds"
and all jiersoiis voting at such elec-
tion against the issuance of said
bonds shall have written or printed
on a ticket "against the issuance of
funding bonds."
