Quarantine receipts last week were
liberal but were well distributed
throughout . the week. Market
for the week closed strong on the
best steers others and she stuff
a shade lower. This week opened
yesterday with big runs of cattle
everywhere and was marked by
the appearance of large number
of mountain cattle at the Northern
markets resulting in sharply low-
er prices for grass cattle. About
4000 head were in Quarantine
division here and only about 1000
head are here today. Market is
slow today but steady with the
decline of yesterday and about 10
to 25 cents under close of last week.
Top steers today brought 4.45 a
shipment from Centralia Cattle
M Dompany Crider I. T. averag-
ingi2iolh and composed of 134
! head. Other sales of steers range
mostly from 3.00 to vy today.
Cows and heifers bring $2.00 to
2.50 except canners which drop
(down to fi.50. Veal calves are
! strong this week and sell up to
M.25-
Hogs were lower yesterday ac
count of too many being centered
at Chicago but market is strong
and some higher today. Packers
here have full forces at work and
are filling orders that ordinarily
would go to houses at other points
sent here account or bad strike
conditions elsewhere. Top price
today is 5.27 1 2 bulk of sales
5.-05 to 2.20 Quality" is not as
good as formerly indicating f-.-wcr
hogs to come and consequently
better price's.
Sheep receipts are improving
and contain many Westerns scarce-
ly any Texans. Westerns contain
a good many feeding grades which
sell strong at 3.25 to 3.50 for
wethers 2.25 to 3.00 ipr ewes-
Killing sheep bring 3.25 to 3.J5
yearlings $ 4. 00 lambs 5.0010 $6.
Markets this week are active
and steady with close of last week.
