THIS OKLAHOMA CITV COM'KNTION.
The statehood convention held at
Oklahoma City Friday was largely at-
tended nnd we hope will result in
much good. The resolutions And
memorials passed have the correct
ring. They provide for the immediate
admission of Oklnnomainc1ndlng that
pari of the Chickasaw nation recom-
mended for union by the Dawes com-
mission. This Chickasaw slice con-
tains over 41000 square miles upwards
of ISO 000 inhabitants and an assessed
valuation of over tiOO 000 ooc. It is a
rich fertile country and it annexation
to this territory would be frnitful.
But while we are' clamoriug for the
Chiekataw country why not make our
erica extend to that other rich slice
the Osage country. The 0ages are
willing and anxious to enjoy the luxu-
r.esof statehood with Oklahoma and
we should not disregard their wishes.
tnt urge upon congress the .necessity
of making our tiate line encloe both

would be a good idea for the legisla-

The Oklahoma senate experiences as
much trouble in rooting out subjects
for suitable legislation as the house of
representatives. While the tolons in
the house were struggling to h a
rntio of consent at the ?u of SIS a
minute tbe statesmen in the senate
were engaged tn evolving specimens of
pnnb.hu.ent for contempt of court.
The power to punish for contempt la
inherent and cannot bo altered by any
legislative actlou. Tbe supreme tourt
doeioed this question in the Hurke and
Hrown case and Judge ltlerer iu ren-
dering his decision which is given iu
full tn volume 37. of the Pacific Repor-
ter says:
The court knew the truth-
fulness or the faUlty of all the
things referred to as well if not bel-
ter than any witness could. It cer-
tainly knew its own court proceeding
as well a sny other person No other
person could know them any better
than the court itself. 1 be courts take
judicial knowledge of their own pro-
ceedings and of whatever is done in
court within the limits of their juris-
diction. 1 Oreenl. Kv. a. On this
subject the supreme court of Wiscon-
sin im tbe case of Huckner vs State
19 Wis. 539 says: "The determination
therefore depends cbiedy wpou
whether we can take judicial notice of
our former order. If we cannot it
seems upon tbe record before us. that
the objection is well taken; but if we
can then our conclusion would be dif-
ferent We are inclined to the opinion
that for the purpose of thix objection
te aa take such notice and that the
former record aud others may be con-
sidered." WHAT Tlllt Ml'SlO COlU.
