KANSAS APPOINTMENTS.

I'iipullt IIUatUlleit.
Toukka Kan. .Ian. 12. Interest
centered Jn the senate yestereay. Tho
session was stormy and much oratory
flowed. The trouble commenced
when Governor Lowelling submitted
a batch of appointments. Some of
the appointments wero even very un-
satisfactory to ttie Populists and
they did not hesitate to express them-
selves. Tho appointment of polico
commissioners of Kansas City Kan.
did not suit Senator Taylor. Populist
and lie notified the governor that un-
less tho appointments wero with-
drawn ho would fight thqtn. They
were withdrawn. The reappointment
of the police commissioners of
Wichita did not suit Senator
O'llryau Democrat and he sunt
word to the governor that ho would
light unless the appointments were
withdrawn. They wero not with-
(It awn and O'llryau proceeded to
llgt. In executive session he filed a
vigorous protest charging; Incompe-
tency and other things and succeeded
in procnting n vote on the matter.
The re-appointment of tlu commis-
sioners at Atchison Topoka and Fort
Scott and that of Walter N. Allen on
the board of charities were confirmed
in executive session. The senate went
into executive session this morning
for the consideration of the other ap-
pointments and further cousidcra tion
of the Wichita case.
A BIMETALLIC PARTY.
I'rce Silver Advocates I Icurlnc on I'orm-
lug n National Organization.
Wakiiinoti-.v .Ian. 12. General A.
.7. Warner president of tho American
liimctnllic league admitted to-day
that a conferences of bimotallists from
nil parts of tho country had been
held in this city recently and said:
"It was the decision of tho confer-
ence that u strong and growing
sentiment is manifesting itself in
favor of uniting the friends of
bimetallism in a bimetallic party and
appealing directiy to tho people
on the money issue alone. The con--deration
which seems to bo leading
to this result Is the widespread con-
viction that there is no hope of re-
storing the bimetallic standard
through tho Republican party nor
through the Democratic party as that
party is now controlled. And on tho
other hand that it is equally impossi-
ble to accomplish this result wltliii
tho lines of the Populist parly or to
unite on tho Omaha platform those in
favor of lcstoring tho bimetallic
standard as it was boforo 1873 and on
government control of money"
