dorernor Itenfrow returned homo
....lanlnv frnm a SOiOUrn of two
weeks at the nation's capital. Ho tip'
V
ars halo anil happy and gives turn
the impression thnt Washington oswnc
njrioed with him. Arrived at his
ofhee tho territorial oxocutivo was
soon busy ongngad In disposing of a
dense mass of accumulated business
but ho had time to heartily wolconio
Ins many calleis.
"1 had a highly delightful trip"
said the governor In response to a
cjnery. "I visited all tho depart-
ments; was cordially treated and
talked with scoros of sonators and
representatives in tho halls of con-
gress on subjocts affecting tho Interests
and welfare of Oklahoma. This ses-
sion of congross Is grinding very
slowly end I do not think much busi-
ness i ill bo disposed of. I heard Mr.
Hrjnn'H brilliant talk on tho cur-
rency question as well as tho argu-
ments of other statesman of lesser im-
portance. As for tho currency ques-
tion iongres can hardly got through
with tho measure this session. The
weather in Washington is delightful
in fnet as balmy as Oklahoma and
wlun at leisure I cu joyed strolls over
tue attractive city."
Referring to the subject of statehood
for Oklahoma Governor Uonfrow was
nut elated and from opinions gathered
fi-jin tho national lawmnkors ho
holds tho impression that nothing
whatever will bo done In the mattor
of giving statehood to Oklahoma this
bc--iiih of congross. Ho thinks how-
ever that the Indian question will bo
considered In all its phases -md that
something will bo dono with tho five
nations. Either the Horry or Jonos
bill will bo favorably acted upon and
the Indian troatlos abrogated but
Oklahoma's statehood dream will not
bo realized.
"In regard to tho making of one
state composed of Oklahoma and tho
Osago country I would gladly endorse
such a scheme but it Is not feasible.
Congress' solo Idea now Is to legislate
iu some manner for tho live tribes and
it would bo ns easy for us t get tho
entire ilyo nations i tho Osage coun-
try alone. Tho Osagcs desire to stick
t3 Oklahoma and they being enlight-
ened. Industrious people their wishes
should bo consulted but eongross will
ignore uppoals and wind up with
either a commission or territorial form
of government for the live Indian
tribes. Our only hope for getting a
good 6izod state is to advocate the ad-
mission of Oklahoma with the four-
fifths of the Chickasaw country lead-
ing to tho oast Hue. This outs out the
Indians and places them iu the Indian
c iimtry proper and leaves a lurge fer-
tilo section of country which is popu-
lated almost exclusively by white peo-
ple. I believe this white population
is estimated to be ovor 75000."
Governor ltonfrow has been
"chargod'' with preparing a bill Ax-
ing statehood linos and cutting off
tho Osago country. The bill was pre-
pared by Mr. Ledbetter of Ardmorc
and makes no sueu provisions. The
Osago country is not considered
neither nro any of the Indian tribes
holding lands through treaties. Tho
bill merely recommends ti form of
statehood for Oklahoma including the'
Chickasaw slice iu accordance with
tho vlows above given. Tho bill di-
vides tho added country Into counties
and recommends that it bo made ouo
judicial district; the bill also provides
far four additional couuclliuon aud
e'ght representatives.
tiovernor Ronfrow gives hearty ad-
vocacy to the bill of Congressman
Jones of Arkansas. This bill restoroi
to the Indians their equitable share of
lauds and of oourso makes of tho In-
dian a citizen The passage of this
but followed by a statehood measure
thr governor thinks is the one weighty
way to present our claims for admis-
sion into the union. Mr. Renfrow con-
ferred with the leading statesmen of
tin country while at the capital and
fi urn! many wan- friends of Oklaho-
ma among them- He heard every
rhav of the statehood question dltv-
ciscd by congressmen and is fully
c3-:mantof tho action that will be
ti n when the mattor of statehood is
r a hed.
As regards the bill of Congressman
Jt nes it provides that the secretary of
thr- interior shall survey the territory
now felly ooeupiod by tho
( hiTokeefi Creaks Choetaws
t tilckasaws aud Sarainolos and that 'lis
sum of $185000 be appropriated for
the work. After the survey the In-
dian commission shaU cause the
towns therein to be platted If the
da reut tribes have prepared rolls
upon which appear the names of all
tl.ose entitled to a share iu the divle-
i n of said lands ineluding the Choc-
taw aud Chickasaw frcodmen and
there are no applicant claiming the
r r ht to have their names put or said

loolirht years in Kings county pen-

8351.000 but the specific charges
against Seoly involve only a.1080.
Heely was sent to the llrooklyn pen-

attorney so that his wife could see
liim on visitors' days.
The moment Jndge llenodiot pro-
nounced tlie sentence Heely was es-

federal building by deputies. He was
accompanied by his unele Mllford
Ilallcnb.ick who stood besido him
during the ordeal.
i Seoly threw himself upon a sofa
when ho reached the martini's office.
Asked if ho had anything to "-.iy he
replied: "I feel mueli IhjMiv thin I
