not believe we have done might to
merit this treatment.
It may be said that tills is a matter
which rests largely with the people of
the Osage nation and that if they are
opposed to a change they ought to so
express themselves To this we wonbl
say when one's housohold is tnrned
against him it Is hard for him to de
fend himself. We would also say that
conditions are such here as to render
it almost impossible to get at this
time uii expression from the people of

arc divided Into two factions the a'-
loimcnt and anti-allotment or pro-
gressive and full-blood parties. The
full-blood party is probably In the ma-
jority. Thoy are generally in favor of
being made a part of the Indian Ter-
ritory The progressive party cannot
afford though opposed to going with
Indian Territory to bring about a
right upon this question and thereby
sacrifice all chances for allotment and
destruction ( their tribal govern-
ment There are also upon the reservation
between 0000 and "000 while people
citizens of the United Slates a vast
majority of whom prefer Oklahoma
to the Indian Territory. When this
nation shall become a'l organized part
of some state or territory they expect
to be hero. At present thev are here
under loascs and special permits from
the department to work for the In-
dians consequently they can not tKke
such aotlon as may prevent allotment.
In the matter of statehood the white
man on this reservation is and ought
to be as much Interested as the red
man; ami the Onage nation has as
much right to be protected In this
matter as any other post of Oklahoma
Wo cannot be accused of disloyalty
for we have proven ourselves to tho
contrary While we cannot now take
n stand as between the two territor-
ies; yet we do not want to be turned
against when the present allotment
agitation passes away the people of
this nation will not be found silent
in tills momentuous question.
It in to lie regretted tint the Kl
Iteno convention decided to accept
Ntetohood upon the plans suggested
by the Dawes commission if con-
gress will give Oklahoma the greater
part of the Chickasaw nation it ought
certainly as willing not only leave the
Osage nation but Include tho whole
Indian territory within its bounds.
This ought to be the fight and upon
this question with us at least there
would be not division. With the hope
we have we ought to yet continue the
light for single statehood. Itetter no
statehood at present t.iau statehood
without the Indian territory.
If Oklahoma will let hor fight for
all In sight but sho ought not throw
aside pnrt of her people ngalnst their
own wishes becauso she may gain
thereby. Sincerely yours
