During the renovation of Wick
House Richmond Hill Surrey Eng-
land the supposed residence for sev-
eral years of Sir Joshua Reynolds an
Interesting discovery has been made.
The owner of the house writes a
correspondent noticed in the hall a
certain coloring Knowing through the
faded paper. Carefully removing the
paper she found a fleur da lys design
in blue brown and red. She is of
the opinion that the design from its
tone style and delicacy may have
been painted by Sir Joshua himself.

ning on their return from Muskogee
where they had taken a number of

Lost His Hat.
! James Bradley timekeeper at the
Rock Island shops is wearing his last
season's cap about his work today and
mourning the loss of a strictly modern
sky-piece of the approved railway
Stetson type. Friends of the gentle-
men state that he was heard to allege
this morning that the next time he
called no more than one young lady
at a time he would keep his lid on his I
head no matter what the rules of eti-
quette or the usages of good society
provided.
Forgot His Name.
In a preliminary hearing held before
United States Commissioner Eugene
Hamilton last week wherein the de-(
fendant was charged with violation of
the liquor laws one of the witnesses
T. C. Roberts of Orr Okla. who was
taken into custody at the same time
with the defendant by the marshal
became so ratt!ed and badly scared
that after he had given his testimony
and was told to sign his statement he
forgot his name and had to have his
memory refreshed by the commis-
sioner. After having been Informed
as to his name he assured the com-
missioner that he would never forget
it again.
Wanted In Ardmore.
A girl of the type upon whom the
mantle of Christian charity Is sup-
posed to fall in an effort to cover and
hide her faults and frailties from the
vulgar eyes of the cruel world was
taken in charge by the police last
night and held in the detention de-
partment of the city jail awaiting the
arrival of officers from the sheriff's
force at Ardmore. The girl is charged
with lifting a lot of stuff from a room-
ing house on Main street in Ardmore
following the explosion of several
months since. Sheriff Garrett of Ard-
more has been notified of the girl's
upprehension and has notified the
Chickasha police department that a
Carter county officer will arrive here
for her some time tlm afternoon.
Sunday Blaze Small Damage.
An alarm turned in from the resi-
dence of W. W. Sanford 827 South
Fifth street called No. 2 of the Chick-
asha department out at 12:20 o'clock j
yesterday afternoon. The fire had j
originated from a stove in the living!
room while the family were at church.
Returning just in time to prevent a
bad fire Mr. Sanford found the living i
room filled with smoke while flames I
were beginning to kindle on the floor. I
Embers flying from the stove is j
thought to have communicated with
a box of kindling sitting near the
stove. The rug was badly damaged
and a hole burned through the floor!
before the fire could be extinguished. '
The loss will probably not exceed one
hundred dollars. The quick response
of the fire department to the alarm
possibly saved a very disastrous fire.

The Camel.
When man first saw the camel h
was so frightened at his vast size that
he fled away. After a time perceiv-
ing the meekness and gentleness of
his temper he summoned courage
enough to approach him. Soon after-
wards observing that he was an an-
imal altogether deficient in spirit he
assumed such boldness as to put a
bridle in his mouth and to set a child
to drive him. Use s?rves to overcome
dread. From Aesop's Fables.

The Wheatland Grain and Elevator
company's property at Amber was
totally destroyed by fire Saturday.
The fire is supposed to have been
started by tramps thought to have
been sleeping in a box car on the
siding adjoining the elevator. Charles
Young a young fellow who stated that
his home was in Kingston Pa. was
arrested by Deputy Dan Snell near
Tuttle but after being examined by
the county attorney was turned loose
this morning. Young acknowledged
he was sleeping in the boiler room of j
the elevator when the fire was discov-i

by citizens of the town.

only partially covered by insurance.
Young the man who said he was

fire was discovered stated he entered
the boiler room at about 10 o'clock
