THE VISIT OF GOV CRUCE.
Chickasha and the Chamber of!
Comrnere-e should appreciate the hon- j
or thai are to enjoy In-having'
Gov.. Cruet as our guent at the booster i
Vc.rvb . ' " ' ' ' " '
The governor will be among his
friend? when he cornea to this city.
Whether we are democrats or repub-
i an- ' 'original Grace ni'-n" or what
not doesn't matter; Mr. Cruee will re.
reive a glad.Home greeting as the
state's chief executive from all of the j
big crowd that will ga:her about the
(stal board. We want him to help us
in our efforts to build one of Okla-
homa's coming cities and to point the
way for better citizenship in our won-
derful new commonwealth and in re-
turn w; expect to give to him all the
encouragement and 'assistance within
our power to enalde him to guide the
ship of Ptate successfully -through the
fcur years of his administration.
The booster banquet will be a no-
table occasion not only because of the
governor's presence but also because
the board of regents of the state
school of which we are so proud will
be in attendance '
More than this it. will be an occasion
for us to get together as good friends
and neigbbots and re-dedicate our-
selves to he solution of the problems
before us in making Chickasha the
best town of all. We shall show the
governor the finest bunch of boosters
that he has ever set his eyes upon.
KNCCK THE NEWSPAPER.
One of onr brother editors down in
Texas ein't understand . why 'the peo-
ple of hi-t town always eager Io boos-.'
every o'her enterprise are ever ready
to kno'.'k their home newspaper.
It isn't hard to cipher that out
brother; it is simply human "natur'."
We have lived in several communi-
ties and have made a careful study of
newspaper conditions in many more
arirj we have never yet. found a town or
city where newspaper knockers didn't
abound.
It is curious but true that the aver-
age citizen expects bis local paper to
boost everything all the time and it is
"cblorn that the newspaper fails to do
its duty in this line but. this same
ei'lzen esteems It his religious duty
and privilege to knock the newspaper
as often as he happens to think of it
The newspaper will tell the strangei
that the town is all right the people
are all right the churches and schools
are all right but let the stranger in-
quire about the newspaper and the av.
crape citizen says "yes. we have news
papers but they don't amount to
much."
The truth Is thitt the newspaper is
juft about what the community makes
it; the amount of patronage given it
determines what it shall be. The j
uewnmier would be a eonil ileal better!
if i were knocked less. j

HELP YOURSELF BY
OTHERS.
HELPING
The following is an editorial from
the pen of William Allen White appear-
ing In the "Einitoria Daily Gazette" of
October 29 1910:
Th value of a man should be meas-
ured not by what he does for hiniKelf
but what he does for others anr! the!
value of an organization should not
be measured by what it does for its
members but by what it does for the
community in which it exists.
The punishment for horse stealing is
endorsed and has no terror for th" j
honest man. This roust also be true
of an otganzatlon wnlch ls landed to-!
gether in an effort to be cf value to
its community; possibly that is the
reason -that a vote of thanks was ex-
tended to the state and national or-
ganizer Mr. A. Jacohson. showing
their appreciation of his genius and
untiring gentlemanly efforts in form-
ing this most satisfactory organization.
Organization brings men together
they lear nio know each other learn
that honest and fair competition means
an honest right-of-way and for the
good of the community in which they
dwell. We regard the bringing to-
gether of the merchants' and bankers
as one of the greatest and most ad-
vantageous organizations li the cost
of living can be reduced by eliminat-
ing the dead-beats grafters poor and
"no-pay" fellows every honest con-
sumer will hail it with delight and
give their helping hand to that' end.
It will elevate their credit work no
hardship on the honest or unfortunate
man but it will strengthen his credit
and will help to tide him over any un-
fortunate period. When you hear a
man growling over such an organiza-
tion "you can put him w;ere he be-
longs." The new motto must he "Serve the
Public" then it will give you its ap
plause and support.
