Chickasha Ind. ler.. Nay 3 1907
Behold how brief is fame Thaw isn't even mentioned in the papers.
No sooner has the rest of the excitement subsided than the Central
America folks start a revolution.
Kansas City too has had a clean-up day. It's wonderful the influence
the example of Chickasha has had.
More subscriptions for the new railroad survey are wanted. Have you
given your part; have you done your duty?
Let the board of equalization do its duty and Chickasha can vote bonds
for a high school building which is an absolute necessity.

With all their attacks on the constitution the republicans have signally
failed to point to any defect in it that works to the detriment of any legiti-
mate interests.
It seems to worry some of the republicans that there is an abundance
of good democrats willing to serve the county. It will worry them a good
dea1. more when the returns come in on August 6.
The republicans won't have any scramble over nominations in Grady
ccunty because few of them will consent to be led to the slaughter pen.
A few fixers will get together and name the ticket.
It was known all tht ti"r.c that the republicans of Chickasha were in
favor of statehood; the only question was as to whether they would express
their sentiments against the imperial mandates of their bosses.
We'll gamble to the extent of a peanut that a Kilkenny cat fight would
be a peaceful scene in comparison with the republican state convention when
it meets. We can see the scratching and pulling and hear the "wows" now.
The resolution calling for the nomination of a ticket ought to help some
toward filling up that "aching void" in the Journal's announcement col-
umn. The Express trusts its contemporary may be blessed with a fine
harvest.
The republican bosses of Oklahoma may be willing to sacrifice statehood
on the altar of insatiate and unholy partisan ambition but the great mass
of Indian Territory republicans will rise above partisanship and say "state-
hood first." ..
Despite the largi number of candidates the contest for county nomi-
nations progresses without the development of any of the bitter animosities
and personal feuds that frequently accompany such campaigns. On the
whole it is a friendly good natured rivalry that does credit to the candidates
and augurs well for the parry. Of course there is plenty of bandying and
ell the other fun that makes a political contest interesting but it is being
conducted in a decent way without any indication of venom. It is the only
way democrats have a right to make a campaign and when it is over if
the same tactics are continued to the end everybody will feel good and be
ready to line up for the ticket. Keep the fight clean for be it remembered
that the rank and file will call to account the first man who tries to take any
unfair advantage of an opportunity to inject mud-slinging into the cam-
paign. A clean fair and honorable fight is what the people want and will
require.
CHECK
The action of the Chickasha republicans in awaiting the decision of
the state convention upon the question of handling the constitution is wor-
rying the Express "nigh unto desperation." The Express thought it had
succeeded in jollying the republicans past the danger point and failing in
its work it turns upon them with whip in hand and thinks to drive them
"to fear and trembling." State Capital.
The State Capital will take notice that the republicans of Chickasha
at their meeting on May 1 declared that they were for the constitution
even with its "obnoxious provisions" and they favored the nomination of a
complete ticket "from township trustee to governor" thus rescinding their
former decision to wait for the state convention to speak. Chickasha repub-
licans have their statehood on straight.
