In a small frame house not over a mile
from Stillwater tho notorious desper-
ndo lllll Doolan erstwhile partner lu
the joys and sorrows of tho late but
not lamented lllll Dalton lies suffer-
ing fron two ugly bullet wounds in
his body one in tho breast nnd ono in
tho hips. Theso wounds arc sapping
away his life blood and he will never
bo uble to again rob a bank or wreclc a
train. Doolan sustained theso wounds
while raiding a town in Missouri-!
about eight weeks ago.
The above was In substance the
Btoiy told Tub Lraheii yesterday by a
resident of Payne county who was in
the city. Tun Leadf.u'h informant
stated further that Doolan was being
attended by two physicians and re-
ceived not only the best nursing possi-
ble but all the luxuries and dainties
tho market affords and added "some
of the deputy marshals know that
Doolan is wounded and is In tho violn-
ity of Stillwater but they aro unablo
to locato tho house and It is
well that they cannot as the placo
i well guarded and any attempt to
take the bandit would mean certain
death to the ofllccrs. Many reports
have been in circulation regarding
Doolan rooking raids but they arc till
false. Doolan had a mighty close call
In Missouri and it was with difllculty
' that ho reached Payne county with
two bullets in his body. .Severul
poisccs have been on his trail at differ-
ent times but were Invariably thrown
off tho scent. There have also been
several reports to the effect that
Doolan desires to givo himself up to
the federal authorities and take a
light sentence but I can unsure yon
''there Is nothing in the reports. If
Doolan recovers which is almost im-
possible he will bo as mean and ns
brave as ccr. I don't ask you to give
my story credence but it is the plain
truth."
Tho Payne county man was very
earnest aud as Doolan has been off
the stuge of outlawry for some time
past there may bo more truth than
poetry in bin tale.
