Hannibal Mo.. Julj 23. There has
been a rise of eight inches in the.

amount of losses which in this )o

hundred thousand dollars. Bulletins
received here by telegraph showed
that the water was rising at all prin-

On Bay island and in the bottomi

city markets and the losses from
this sourer will be heavy to these
farmers. A hirge poultry dealer who
raises poultry on an ialand north of
here was compelled to deaert his
place. Several skiff loads of turkeys
and chickens cooped were brought
here by him. Ducks and geeae which
could nut be taken away at the time
struck out in the water and hava
been lost. South of here on Black is

N'nxera to swim HO head of cattle to
the mainland in order to save them
from the encroachments of the
water. At Itrokaw island cattle were
taken awny in barges. A rough es-
timate of conservative parties in
ilnnnibal phicaa the damage occa-
sioned by the water on the Islands
and other lowlands between this city
nnd Keokuk at $3000000. This dis
tance of 60 milea covers several nun
dred thousand acres of some of the
richest bottom lands In the MissiKslp-
pi valley. From Hannibal to '

average width of the river at pres.
