' The republicans have picked up a good idea
long advocated by the Express in insisting upon the
publication of reports . concerning the financial coiij

seed sown has borne fruit. Did anybody ever hear of
" a report being published during the last republican

again in favor of immediate statehood without a
word of criticism for the whelps who are responsible
for the defeat of the bill.. ...
S. Harvard Leech one of our real estate men who
was formerly a leading newspaper man in Missouri
had the following communication in the Oklahoman
yesterday:
"In the killing of the statehood bill by the recent
congress the people of Oklahoma and Indian Territory
have been as fdully betrayed as were ever an intelli
gent citizenship. With the full knowledge that the
citizens of these territories were fully capable and in
in every way thoroughly prepared for statehood the
members of congress who were elected theoretically
at least for the purpose of doing the will ot the ma
jority absolutely and stubbornly refused to give us
that self government to which we were justly entitled
and which the constitution in its inception demands
for all its subjects.
"That the two territories arc made up of the
most progressive the most intelligent and capable
class of citizens to be found within the borders of the
Union cannot for a moment be questioned by anyone
conversant with the actual conditions. We
have been refused recognition discarded with as lit
tie ceremony and apparent unconcern as though we
had been a colony of Fiji islanders. And thus the
world has been witness to as unjust unholy an omis
sion as ever disgraced a legislative body.
"As we have been so refused recognition by the
United States cougress.Jhad our prayers and entreaties
quietly shoved into a congressional pigeonhole it oc-
curs to me that it is high time we were taking the bull
by the horns and doing something for ourselves
Should wejsit idly by and quietly accept the decree of
this Jearnedi (?) body of legislators it would indeed be
a serious reflection upon our ow;n intelligence.
believe the people of the two territories are made of
sterner material that they are universally indignant
at the manner in which they have been told they are
are not yetcapable of knowing what is for their own
best good- and if given the opportunity they are
ready to. make a most vigorous protest
"I would therefore make the suggestion tli a
every-commercial club every business organization
woman's club and every newspaper within the two
territories irrespective of race creed politics or pre
vious condition at oiicetakeupthe matter of preparing
and circulating petitions addressed to Theodore Roo-e
velt president of the United States demanding tha
he call an extra session of congress for the purpose of
considering the admission to statehood of Oklahoma
and Indian Territory as one state.
"These petitions should set forth in a lucid man
ner the resourses progress the development and
wonderful possibilities of the territories. There is
but little question that such a movement backed by
the press of the territories and echoed by the press
throughout the United States would have a wonderful
educational influence both upon the people and the
legislators and might bring the latter to a better real-
izotion of their cowardly act of omision. It woujd be
ci'fficult too for the president to refuse to give some
sort of recognition to such a popular demand from
such an intelligent patriotic people.
"I would suggest that this matter be at once
taken up and pushed to an early conclusion."

It is commendable in the republicans of the city
that they go on record again as in favor of immediate
statehood with Oklahoma and endorse the calling of a
constitutional convention. So far as known this is
the first expression of Indian Territory republicans on
the statehood question since their party's recent flunk
issue. It ought to do good in counteracting
