True Carnival Spirit Pervaded
the Crowded Streets
East Night.
Some of the carnival attractions
had difficulty in caring forthe
great mass of people who sought
admittances to the tented enclos-
ures last night and all did a re-
markable big business.
The streets were crowded until a
late hour and it was a happy care-
free crowd. The big red automo-
bile of Mr. Parker's did a large
business and hundreds of icople
secured a ride in it through the
business district and a portion of
the residence part of the city.
At the bijj coliseum on South
Sixth street the largest crowd yet
assembled there witnessed the eve-
ning jterfonnance. The perform-
ance lasts over an hour and but two
are given each day. It is the only
twenty five cent attraction on the
pike and is well woithy the price.
The magician the trick bicyclist
the horizontal bar r-rfonncrs the
slack wire jkm former who turns a
complete somersault on the wire to
say nothing of the thrilling loop
the loop by Deinona a slight figure
of a young woman who does the
act enclosed in a ball are attrac-
tions at the coliseum which do not
fail to please the most fastidious.
The merry-go-round with its
splendid vlectrical organ and the
Pel l is wheel a half a block south of
it were other centers of attraction
during the entire evening. The
latter carried crowd after crowd A
young people who enjoyed the sen-
sations of a ride through space.
Hundreds of electric lights in and
around the attractions makes it al-
most as light as day and the gay
colors of the decorations with the
music from half a do.en electric or-
gans mingled with the laughter of
the crowds in the'euclosurcs and on
the streets cannot fail to drive aw ay
dull caie and worries and all who
enter the pike arc of one mind soon
after rcachmi! there. It is no
place for the person with a long
face.
Mayor Shullz ami O. W. Hinkle
liotli undertook to solve Ann's age
when they visited Vnn's place last
evening together. They are still
somewhat in doubt ;.!out the mat-
ter and fear to give ofTensc to the
somewhat mythical lady.
At the Alps and electric palace
last night the people crowded in
front of the entrance so dcusely
that the audiences were dismissed
through the side walls. Beatrice

Active Preparations Are Being
Made to Make a Big N'oise on
October I.
Active preparations arc King
made in Indian Teiritory for a
di-play at the World's Fair Indian
Territory Day which has been
fixed for OctoUr 1 that will prove
the greatest opportunity the terri-
tory has ever had to get itself be-
fore the world. Not only have the
commissioners fiom alt the nations
taken an active interest in the
matter but the business men from
all the towns. There will le a
display of the resources such as
the territory has never lcfoie col-
lected and in every other way will
infoini.U ion lie disseminated alxuit
this country of which the public
generally knows so little. Neatly
every town of consequence will
have a snousor to assist in the
ceiemonics on Indian Teiritory
iViv ami the attendance from Hi
teiritory will be very large. The
press of the territory have taken
the matter up and are conducting
a vigorous campaign for the pur-
pose of making the show ing as cre-
ditable as is possible.
Mrs. Roth well returned today
from a month's visit with relatives
in Missouri and at the World's 1

Norman O. T. Sept. 12. Ev-
erything about the University is
hustle and bustle this week getting
ready for enrollment. The students
have already lx.-guu to arrive and
are fast getting located in comfort
able quarters.
The new buildings are all com
pleted and it is will; considerable
pride that the University can now
say tliat it is prepared uoiii in
buildings and equipment to accom-
modate over a thousand students.
These buildings consist of the Main
building or University Hall the
New Science Hall the Carnegie Li-
brary and the Gymnasium which
have been erected by the territory
ami are thrown open to the use of
the Ixjys and girls of bolh terri-
tories. The Board of Regents have dur-
ing the past summer made a num-
ber of additions both to the course
of study and to the faculty until
now the University of Oklahoma
offers as complete a com se and as
good a faculty as any of th- other
sta'es.
The formal owning will take
place Thursday morning in the
University Chapel Hall. The
president will deliver his annual ad-
dress and a large crowd of friends
of Hi .-school and the dozens of
Norman will le present. Every-
thing points to a very successful
year for the University and the
Faculty and Board of Regents are
much pleased with the outlook.
