Goals of Sleuths
(By TliP Vnitetl Prcs.)
New York Dec. 30 An offensive
egalnst hli?h soeleiy bootleggers and
other violators of the Volstead act
has been opened by the federal au-
thorities here.
Colonel William Hay ward XJnlted
States district attorney told the
United Press toduy no distinction
would be made between ordinary
bootleggers and members of the
most excluHivo circles who disre-
gard the dry law.
' A quiet warning' went out that
even exclusive clubs would not bo
exempt from raids If they attempted
jollifications on New Year's eve. Ex-
pensive private stocks of millionaires
will be the especial goal of federal
agents who interrupt such festivities.
The 'raid on the Racquet and Ten-
nis club which resulted in Indict
ment of thirteen wealthy men on a
charge of bootlegging and otherwise
breaking the Volstead act is only
the first step to make the dry law
just as effective among the rich as
among the poor.
