A SOPORIFIC CAMPAIGN.
Hopelessly outnumbered the Repub-
licans of Oklahoma are attempting to
conduct a campaign this fall that will
put the Democrats to sleep. Through-
out iho southern portion of the state
where the Democratic vote is heaviest
the Republicans have let practically
very office go by default even to that
of congressman from the Fifth dis-
trict. This Is not altogether apathy
on the part of the Republicans but
conies largely from a ell defined po-
litical plot. The Republicans hope
that by leaving the Democratic local
candidates in these heavy Democratic
Bections without opposition that they
ran keep hundreds of the Democrats
from going to the polls. With this
accomplished and a vigorous cam-
paign in the northern section of Okla-
homa where the strength of the two
parties are more evenly divided they
hope to greatly reduce the Democratic
majority.
The Democrats of Southern Okla-
homa should not forget that the is-
sue of this campaign is the most im-
portant one th-'t ever confronted the
American people. It's a question of ocratlc Press Bureau
not only electing that greatest living
American William J. Bryan but It's a
question of whether an aroused and
informed American public can bring
the national government Uriel? to the
hands of the people from the control
of (he trusts and predatory interests.
The election of Bryan may depend
upon the electoral vote of OUnlio.ua.
Only the failure of the good Demo-
crats of Oklahoma to go to the polls
could make it even possible for our
electoral votes to be est for any other
candidate.
Loyal Democrats of Oklahoma don't
he put to sleep by a Republican
soporific. Let the southern half of year in. l-hoir history
Oklahoma roll up such a majority for booster
the Democratic ticket as will forever
put at rest the Idea that our lntelli-
for the building up and improving of
it than the millionaire who locks up
his capital and snaps his fingers at
homo progress. Clarendon Chronicle
A little money and much public
spirit beat much money and little pub-
lic spirit in any community. The rich
man ordinarily spends much of his
time in trivel or at pleasure resorts
while his poorer neighbor stays on
winter and summer where his work is.
The opulent party learns to look fur
ther and further away for his pleas-
ure while the stay-at-home citizen
bends his energies if he is the right
sort to the improvement of his imme
diate environment. The town build-
er is a home builder; the town killer
is a time killer. Dallas Xews.
o
DON'T BE DECEIVED.
Knowing that William Jennings
Bryan Is dearer to the hearts of the
people of Oklahoma than any other
living American and that Tuft's fool-
ish opposition to the Oklahoma consti-
tution has made him obnoxious to
many Oklahoma Republicans the man-
agers of the state campaign of that
party are trying to hide the real is
sue and district public attention from
the presidential campaign by a flood
of malicious canards attacking the
Democratic state administration and
every' prominent member of it. The
honest Democrats of Oklahoma must
not lose sight of the fact thp.t this fall
the first opportunity is given them to
repay Mr. Bryan in par for his mag-
nificent friendship and assistance to
Oklahoma in her struggle for state-
hood. There is but one issue tn the
present campaign and that is the elec-
tion of .a president of the United
t Sates. Oklahoma is Democratic and
for Bryan 50000 majority but that
won't deliver the electoral vote of
Oklahoma to Bryan unless the Okla-
homa Democrats go to the polls Dem-

The word comes to us from all sides that trees shade trees and and
fruit trees trees for comfort and tree.-! for profit are to be put out this fall.
The report from the nurserymen is that trees and shrubbery galore are
being connected for.
Nnthinrr prMc nior? to the beaut;- of a home than graceful shade
trees.
There is a nobility in trees a poetry in shrubbery an inspiration in
grass and flowers which reflect lasting good upon the child brought into
intimate association with them.
The head of the family owes it to bis children and his children's chil-
dren to make a home for them and a home without shade is a camp on the
prairie.

fort into hiB home and its surroundings is not a good citizen 110 matter
