mercial science was awarded to
Charlotte Doeberitz of El Reno.
Miss Vera Anderson of Pocasset re-
ceived a 1-year -fliploma in commer-
cial science.
Washington May 28. A rigid in-
vestigation into the affairs of the In-
dian bureau of the department of tho
interior will be conducted by con-
gress under the terms of the Indian
appropriation bill as It passed tho
house last night.
This together with the adoption
ot what was known in the last con-
gress as the Chandler amendment
providing an attorney to be appoint-
ed by the Osage tribal council at a
salary of not to exceed $nim a year
were tho most Important changes In
the bill.
I Tho Hastings amendment provld-
I ing for tho approval of uncontested
oil and gas leases in Muskogee in-
stead of Washington lost. Both Con-
gressmen Hastings and Howard
spoke for tho adoption of the amend-
ment. It was knocked out on a point of
order by Representative Crampton of
Michigan.
After its failure Congressmen Car-
ter Hastings Ferris and Howard an-
nounced that an attempt would be
made to have It reinserted in the
senate before the bill went to a vote.
Congressman Carter succeeded in
having written to be permanent leg-
islation a provision that uncontested
agricultural and mineral leases ex-
clusive of oil and gas be handled at
Muskogee instead of Washington.
! The per capita payment to Chicka-
saws and Choctaws was raised from
$150 to $200.

Lieut. Shelton Buck.
Lieut. Arch Shelton who has serv-
ed several months in Franco with
tho 131st Field Artillery returned
yesterday to Chickasha having been
mustered out of the service. Lieu-
tenant Shelton was formerly con-
nected with a cotton firm hero and Is
well known to Chickasha peoplo. His
friends were holding impromptu re-
ceptions in rapid succession this
morning congratulating him upon his
safe return to America. While Clio
lieutenant has been in Franco Mrs.
Shelton has been making her homo
