Tbe wet end of ( hickasba ae-
nue between Fourth and Eighth
ttreetd is being graded and placed
in good condition by Aldermnn
Fergaion and a force of men. Tbn
ii certainly a much needed im-
provement and Alderman Fergu-
son is going tkt'li in a way tbat con-
vinces one be knowa what be it
doing. The gutters at each aide
are being widened and deepen.i
and the dirt taken therefrom is
thrown up in the middle of tbe
etreet. There were several bad
mud holes in this thoroughfare
but this treatment will obliterate
tbeio.
Tbe mass meeting called by
members of tbe Council and Com-
mercial Club to disonss the pro-
posed bond issue at the corner of
Third and Cblckasha avenne last
eight failed to materiallre on ac-
count of the threatened approach
of a storm. Tbe band fulfilled
its part of the contraot faith-
fully appearing on the street
at 8:15 and reodering a cumber of
inspiring selections. Tbe sky was
really very threatening and the
fierce black clouds which tumbled
over each other in the heavens to-
gether with tbe lurid lightning
thunder aud heavy wind warned
all that a storm was brewing and
perhaps a cyclone. The threaten-
ed danger passed too latP how-
ever to hold the meeting. The
band switched its efforts to tbe
opera bouse corner and besan to
drum up a crowd for the show.
Tbe meeting might jnst as well
have been neld for never a drop
of rain sell that night; the wind
died do";o aud tbe stars came oat.
