A Woman's Presenot of Mind.
The following true story hap
pened in a Suffolk village. A hus
band had gone out for the evening
and Ielt ha wife and child at home.
Hie woman was about to retire for
the night when to her amazement
she percf ved the foot of a man be-
neath the bed. Instead of calling
for assistance as some would have
done sli coolly went to the child's
cot and sang till the child went to
sleep. 1 wo hours then remained be
fore her husband came in. He wa
surprised to find her waiting up but
when his wife handed him an en
velope saying "You might run and
post this" the cause of her waiting
was revealed. Instead of a letter
tlw following was written on the
envyope: "A burglar is under our
bed; run fetch police. The hus-
Dami returned in a minute with a
policeman and the man was ar
rested. The burglar when brought
up before tlie magistrate remarked
that he had come across a few brave
women in his time but this one
must have had a nerve like iron for
she sat there for three solid hours.
He had tlie impression that she
didn't know he was there till the
policeman pulled him out.
Figures Regarding Jews.
The Jewish year book for th
year 5664 which has just been pub
lished by the Jewish Publishing So-
ciety of America and edited by Cy
rus Adler gives some interesting
figures about the numerical growth
of the race in this country. New
York has the largest Jewish popu
lation of any of the states with 500-
000 and then come rennsylvama
and Illinois with Massachusetts
four"! with 60000. The total
Jewish immigration through the
ports of New York Philadelphia
and Baltimore for the past twelve
years has been 761508 and during
the past year 58079 arrived at the
port of New York alone. Among
these were 30546 Russian 18113
Austrian 8314 Roumanian and
only 527 German Jews. Tlie total
JewHi population of the United
States is now 1127268 wlvile there
are only 276614 in the British empire.

Perhaps the most convincing evidence of the
efficacy of the course of treatment administered
at Hot Springs Arkansas is to be found in the
fact that
Hot Springs
is the only health resort in the country which to
endorsed by the Federal Government.
All the springs are on Government property.
The bath houses are under Government super-
vision. The Army and Navy Hospital is located
there. In all sorts of ways the Government testi-
fies to its belief in the healing powers of its
wonderful waters.

ELECTRIC LIGHTS
are so apparent that we are almost
ashamed to talk about them. They
stick right out like the nose of your
face but as Marcus Aurelius
might have said if he had thought
ot it "If a man blow not his own
horn the same it shall not lie
Mowed." And our office boy says
he 11 be Wowed if he can see whv
we should hide our light under a
half bushel.
Ro to save argument we are will
ing to admit that there is 110 light
that even approaches the electric
light iu quantity of light radiated
all around the room.
The quality of the light you can
see lor yourself. Electric lights
give a strong clear vivid white
light. That is what is demanded
today pure while light and plenty
ol it.
If our jw'nls are not clear to you
it is undoubtedly due to the fact
that your light is poor. If 3 011
wnl put in a lull equipment of elec
tric lighesthe whole subject w ill be
made beautifully luminous and we
will have.pe.ice in the family.
