This chart shows the extraordinary growth of long
distance (rathe on Use Hell System under war condi-
tions. Every effort lias been made to keep pace witii
this unusual growth despite (he double cost of all
materials entering into the juanufaoture of telephone
equipment the abnormal increase in Cue price ot
labor and the shortage of both material and labor
with which to increase our facilities.

demand from that source is already great and is-
increasing hourly: moreover the extraordinary in-
crease in telephone traffic due to the unprecedented

condition will appeal to the constant patriotism of

I A ictter iias just been received
from Jonn E. JCnterkine. who is now-
serving in the aero squadron in Kel-
ley Field San Antonio. Tex. Me for-
merly lived in Chickasha. The let-
ter was addressed to his father 'who
experienced man on gasoline molors.
I had a nice talk with him add learn-
ed that he worked out on Common-
wealth avenue for the Packard peo-
ple as an inspector. I made him a
truck master which will pay him
about ninety bucks a month. He
thanked me very nicely because he
wanted to drive an officers car but.
I wouldn't let him so you sen. Dad
1 have some power myself just as to
what I want to do and as to the
placing of men.
