Or course .we couhi set. along on Ies than $0'hh) for
scfeool buildings. We could worry along w iihout paved
streets sidewalks churches and without any schools at
all. But is this the spirit of the Chickasha people? We
think not; hn it comes to schools thp Question is not
how little but how much we can spend. Beiter err by ex-
cess than to sunt the sum to be appropriated.
A cotton mill would be a most desirable acquisition;
a ptuhing Louse would be worth striving for and there
are numerous other industrial enterprises to be encouraged
but the greatest institution any city can have is a fine
system of public schools. Chickasha should have more
room ia the ward schools and the buildings should be
better equipped. We should have a handsome high school
provided with laboratories for teaching science a manual
training department and all the other equipment of a
-modern institution. "It costs lots of money" you say.
Of coarse it aV-s it wouldn't be worth having if it. didnt
bus ChicJtasha is not "short." We want the best and
should be willing to pay for it.
Just take a look at the list of democratic nominees
for members ot the school board. Every one of thera
is a splendid representative citizen. They are business
and professional men of the highest standing in the com-
munity and they can be relied upon to do faithful ser
vice on the board. Moreover they are good democrats.
Vote Tor them.
Foxy "Uncle Joe" Cannon while standing pat against
reduction of the tariff on wood pulp introduced a reso-
lution to probe the paper trust. This subterfuge does
credit to the speaker's masterly mind but it doesn't afford
any material relief to paper consumers.

Tbe Indiana republican convention concluded its Fair-
kicks panegyric with the following glowing phrases. "He
believes in the ptinclples of the party its purposes. He
has long been identified with its work and h.as for years
"bonio a distinguished part in Its campaigns. He Is wise
in counsel. Ifls judgment is deliberate and sound. He
.-possess a steadfast purpose and conservative courage.
Ills heart is hind. His sympathies sincere and wise; his
dignity modest but reyl. His sense of justness exact and
abiding. His private life is pure; his home life ideal; his
public life unblemished." All of which is respectfully
-submitted to the nation as good and sufficient reasons
hy the Hoosicr statesman should be president.
The democrats offer J. D. Carmlcfiael and J. S. Tatman
aR their candidates in the Third ward and they are good
ones. You will make no mistake in voting for them.
Dr. Dawson &nd R. 11. Wilson are particularly weel
qualified to serve on the school board and the Second
wa'-d will elect them by handsome majorities.
o
Two A No. 1 men are presented for the school board by
the Fouith ward democrats. Dr. Marrs and E. S. Dongan
are eminently well fitted for the duties of the offlee.
o
"Biliy" Edw.trds and Claud Erwln are the democratic
nominees in the first and they are the right sort of timber
vole for them.
Democrats should attend the ward meetings tonight.
There is an opportunity to render some effective party-service.
Some Texas scientist could confer an unspeakable bless-
ing upon his state by discovering an auti-toxine for the
Baily-antl-Balley disorder.

Thare seems to be no general protest against Evelyn
Nesbit Thaw going abroad and staying.
o .
"Billy" Hopkins is the man for treasurer might as well
make it unanimous.
