THE REAL STATE MAKERS.
We are passing through the formative stage of
State building in Oklahoma and Indian Territory on-
ly the formative stage. We are developing the natur
al resources of the country building cities and vill
soon we hope be writing a constitution and estab
lishing the machinery of government but the real
work the great work is yet to come. Great common
wealths are a product ot slow growtn. not omit Dy a
single generation. We lay the foundation today and
future generations complete the work.
Ia moulding the character of the boys and gir's
who are to constitute the citizenship of the future
state the school teachers become the real state
makers. What the future state will be will depend
upon the character of the citizens and in training the
minds and hearts of the children today the teachtrt
are doing a work not second in importance to that
performed by any other class.
In Indian Territory the teachers and the people
have struggled against great odds in establishing edu-
cational institutions. Considering the tremendous
difficulties they have accomplished wonders and the
splendid school systems in our cities and towns are
monuments to their enterprise and sacrifice Vast
sums have bten spent but a better investment could
not be made. We can scarcely be too liberal in yoting
money for such a purpose.
Institutions that develop strong useful clean
citizens are cheap at any price. Let the people stand
back of the men and wonen who are playing so un-
protected a part in making the future state of Oklahoma-
000
We are obliged to the Washington coorespondent
of the Dallas News for the following infurmationl con-
tained in his special Wednesday: "It i certain that
when the bill comes up in the senate an amendment
will be offered making a court town of Chickasha and
this proposition has such support as makes it seem
probable that it will prevail.' '
DEMOCRATIC EXECUTIVE COM-
MITTEE. The Democratic Executive Committee of
the 19th Recording District is hereby called to
meet at the court house in the city of Chickasha
on Saturday the ioth day of February 1906 at
3 o'clock in the afternoon.
It is earnestly hoped that every member of
the committee will be present at the meeting.
Lawrence Mills. M. M. Beavers
Secretary. Chairman.
WELCOME TO THE TEACHERS.
The members of the Rock Island Teachera' Asso-
ciation are our guests and Chickasha is glad to see
them. A more than hearty welcome is yours ladies
and gentlemen. Chickasha feels honored in haying
as her guests this distinguished body of men and
women and bids them help themselves to the best we
have. Great people these teachers a great calling
isjtheirs and since their pecuniary compensation isn't
half ss large as it should be let us partially pay our
arrears to them by giving them their due mead of
praise and honor. May this session of the Rock Is
land Teachers' Association be the most profitable and
succeiisful ever held and may the teachers leave us
with a love and locging in their hearts for
Chickasha that nothing but another visit can satisfy
Have a good time teachers and come to see us again

JTIIE LUXURIOUS EDITOR.
An Oklahoma editor boasts that he has a pair of
suspenders for (every pair of pants he owns. We
know of a lot of territory editors in the same fix but
we won't say how many pair of pants they own. Ex.
The boastful editor' s'story sounds rather yellow.
We have known a great many editors and other folks
but we have yet to meet one who was able to Indulge
in the luxury referred to. It has always been the
goal of our irnbition to reach that point but we have
almoit ceased to hope. It suggests a peace of mind
and a source of comfort almost past understanding a
pur ot "galluses" to every pair of pants! P. S. We
have two pairs of pants.

HUSTLING CHICKASHA.

raising $23985 for the Washita Valley Interurban
railroad at the rate of $2000 a minute. The compa-
ny promises to build a double electric railway track
from Denison Tex. to Chickasha and have it in op
eration within 'eighteen months also to establish
general machine shop at Chickasha to cost not less
than $150000 and to employ 150 men K. C. Journal.
