Since tlie $100000 school appro-
priation by congress became availa-
ble an J the rules of the department
of the interior for its expenditure.-
were made public some twenty
small incorporated towns in the
Choctaw nation have awakened to
the realization of their predieameu.
Hitchcock has stripped them clean
of their educational adv antages.
The new ruling declares that no
part of the fund shall be expended
in incorporated towns. These small
places hit so hard have enjoyed the
instruction of teachers hired by the
supervisor of Indian schools. Where
a number of Choctaw pupils were
in attendance the government has
provided a teacher. In other cases
the residents have assisted in pay-
ing this salary. In twenty or more
