CANNON AND THE METHODISTS
MethodlstB all over the state are
indignant over tho treatment that rep-
resentatives of thoir church received
last winter from Jusoph' O. Cannon
the czar of the lower house. Almoit
every iny some good Methodist li
heard to declare that although a re-
publican he wouldn't hesitate to vote
against Cannon wore he a resident ot
Cannon's concessional district.
There are two ways tor Methodists
to aid is eliminating Speaker Cannon.
One is to lend their voice and vote
toward his dofoat for ro-clcctlon to
congress and the other Is to lend
tholr voloe and vote for tho defeat of
any athrr candidato for congress who
is not known to beagalnst the ie-
election of Cannon is speaker ot the
house.
Nor Is It proper to assumo that the
affront offered the reprcscntatlwR ot
the Methodist church arose from any
dislike for that denomination alone on
the part of tho speaker. He sneered
at these men and insulted thorn not
bcrause Ihey wcro Methodists but be-
caure they were Christians and were
there asking him for legislation that
would aid In suppressing Immorality.
In Oklahoma a vote for Henry 8.
Johnston In thr first district. Klmcr
L. Fulton In the Fecund district J.vt.
S. Davenport In the third district
Charlos D. Cartrr In the fourth dis-
trict and Scott Ferris In the fifth dis-
trict means a vote against Cnnnon
for apcakor of tho house
On tho nther hand a vote for ljlrd
McGuire in the tlrst district monns a
vote for .loo Cannon for speaker. A
vote for Dick T. Morgan in he second
dIMrict means a vote for '.lo'o Cannon
for speaker. A olo for C. E. Creager
In tho t'llrd district meaus vote for
Joe Cannon for speaker. A volo for
R. F. Hackctt In the rourth district
means a vote for Joe Cannon for
speaker.
If the Methodists of Oklahoma' who
resent the treatment of the btphup of
their church by the Czar from Dan-
ville -are sincere In their hope that
he mav nver again be speaker they
will aid In making It 1m possible by
voting for democratic candidates for
congres. A republican congressman
from Oklahonls means a vote for Czar
Cannon for speaker. If ny republi-
can doubts this let him write to the
republican camlidate for 'congress
from his district and see It b.e will
deny it. "
REPUBLICANS BEWILDERED
Up .Against a United Democracy and
C Real Fight With Old Heads
in Command
Have you noticed how the republi-
can campaign management and the
republican presidential candidates
have been playing second fiddle to the
democratic committee and Mr. Uryaa
from the Inception of this campaign?
Mr. Bryan said the deposit guaranty
law would be a good thing for tho
country. Mr. Taft said "ridiculous
and prepoaterouH it wouldn't do at
all." Then he heard from Kansas
which Is Ji'-t across the line from
Oklahoma and concluded that It
might be all right allow a guaranty
fund to he created if the banks otm
allowed to haude it themselves and
to lite their own Judgment about sub-
scribing to it. To tell tho truth about
It. TaR didn't know that It wt load-
vd when be got to monkeying with
that bank deposit guaranty Idea.
Then remember the tremendous
amusement which the lepnbilcar.
newspapers and speakers got out of
tho idea or Mr. Bryan's "canned
speeches" when tho announcement
woe first made that the demoeratlo
candidate was lmpi casing hm views
on phonographic records tor distribu
tion to voters. But thin was another
Idea that rather took with the people.
The hoi pOllol couldn't see anything
rldieiiloue In Mr. Bryan transmitting
his voice and thoughts to thorn
through a phonographic record whan
It was impossible tot htm to roach tho
maasofl In jiorpon. The announcement
was soon forthcoming thut Mr- Tai
had started a canning factory of hta
own with twelve different varietios
ot prdservod speech on the menu.
Tho republican party Is up against
t real fight this year and they don t
know what to do about It. For the
first time In twelve years they have
to do with a united democracy and
tiie wise old heads in charge ot tf
atlonal democratic campaign hafe
