Paris May 16. After keeping at bar
for nore than a week 700 troops a com-
pany of engineers and a dosen officers
headed by Brig Qen. Rabin to say noth-
ing of magistrates and police a septs u-
ger.arian gamekeeper of the name of
Roy has been blown out of his cottage
at the village of Usseau department of
Nlevre In which he had barrlcaaed him-
self to avoid arrest for murder.
The hardy outlaw watching day and
night from self-mado loopholes prevent-
ed those seeking to arrest him from ap-
proaching within range of his shotgun
lie wounded three soldier and a civil-
ian. His prolonged reslstence waa due.
of course to the desire of the authori-
ties to spare his life so mat he might
be tried and executed by the guiltotlae.
A single change of artillery would have
demolished the cottage. It was appar-
ently owing to Roy being worn out by
his long watch that sappers were even-
tnally able to creep up to the cottage
Saturday night and lay a melinite
bomb. The besiegers were called off
be a bugle the fuse waa fired and the
cottage was blown uo.
ROy bolted but was overtaken by vil-
lagers and other. He waa terribly
kicked and mauled A fatal lynching
was only prevented by the troops Roy
Is now in the hospital. Fully 6000 spec-
tators many of them coming from a
long distance watched the final operation.
