The Chlcakasaw Indians ftspeolnlly
those who have boon Identified With
the government of the Indiana in tho
last few years are very much In fa-
vor of abolishing the government of
the tribe as It is at present constitu-
ted. They argue and with good reason
that there Is nothing to the present
form of government that Is of any
value to tho Chickasaw peoplo as a
'whole. As a matter of fact the acts
of tho Chickasaw legislature are mora
hIld'B play and amount to nothing
and so far tho Chickasaw officers be-
ing a1;lo to do anything In the way of
enforcing laws keoplng tho peace or
anything that In any way helps tho
condition of tho Chickasaw people
that Is all stuff. Tho laws amount to
nothing and the office holders per-
form purely perfunctory and needless
duties.
It has boon suggested by somo that

means of carrying on schools. It Is
suggested by those who favor a change
of Chickasaw affairs and abolishment
of all form of tribal government that
the contracts now standing for schools
for tho nation bo provided for. Tho
Interest on the trust funds of tho na-
tion now amounts to something like
466000 annually and the royalties
from the coal and asphalt mines
amount to about $34000. Thore aro

available for their education amount-
ing to $100001) per annum. It is en-
tirely sufficient not only to educate
those 750 children but would clothe
them as woll and provldo medcal at-
tenton for them. There would bo no
trouble about educating tho children.
There would be more money for edu-
cational purposes In fact than there
Is under tho present order of thlng3
when so much monoy Is taken ou. of
tho school fund to keep up a form of
government that Is not needed and can
not bo of any further use to tho peo-
ple. A movement is on foot among the
Chickasaws to end tho government by
the tribe with tho end of tho Mosoloy
administration. It would havo two
more years of legal life It tho Indians
want to continue it but they figure
that considerable monoy may be saved
