held. There was a delegation on

Exalted Ruler Charlos E. Pickett cal-
led tho gathering to order this morn-
ing In the assembly hall of tho Mor
mon tabernnclo the Interior of which
was gay with lh flags and banners
of tho order. The- opentng proceed
Ings woro routine In character but'
mono the less Interesting. Governor
Wells extended greetings on behalf of
tho state of Utah and tbero were oth-
er welcomes for tho city tho local
lodges of tho order and tho business
men of Salt Lake City. Response won
embodied In the annual address of the
grand exalted ruler and then the con-
vention listened to reports and ttio
appointment of committees. This
business disposed of an early adjourn-
ment was token to permit tho visitors
to partako of the first Installment of
the long and attraclvo tcntortalnment
progrnmmo prepared by tho local
committees. The big parade takes
place tomorrow and there will also bo
a business session behind closed
doors.
