Letter Received From E. L. Halsell
and Party.
This ofllce received a letter last
week from Ed L. Halsell mailed
at Honolulu Hawaii on the 12th -ten
days ago. They sailed by the Orient-
al line steamer Doric and expected
to arrive at Yokohama Japan yes-
Thursday. The party are well and re-
port a delightful trip. Their next
address Is Hong Kong China at
which place they will be the latter
part of November. The letter took
three two-cent postage stamps with
a picture of Honolulu harbor upon
them. Mr. Halsell says he has de-
veloped into a good sailor. They saw
but one object on the trip of six and a
half days and that was an enormous
dead whale. Honolulu is pronounced
a handsome city and has 50000 in-
habitants. The natives are very
obliging and clever and reem to be
proud that they are Americans. The
native women all wear "Mother Hub-
bards" some of them made of silk
with long trains.
Beware nf Ointments for Catarrh that
Contain Mercury
as mercury will surely destroy the
sense of smell and completely derange
the whole system when entering it
through mucous surfaces. Such arti-
cles should never be used except on
prescriptions from reputable physi-
cians as the damage they will do is
ten fold to the good you can possibly
derive from them. Hall's Catarrh
CUre manufactured by F. J. Cheney
& Co. Toledo O. contains no mercu-
ry and is taken internally acting di-
rectly upon the blood and mucous
surfaces of the system. In buying

COAL ROYALTY.
Hardship Upon th Man L ast Able
to Bear It.
The local coal haulers are hav-
ing to pay a royalty on the coal
they are digging and hauling to
town. The price of coal is so low
there is very little in tbe business
at best and when a portion of that
has to be yielded up it locks pretty
bard. The interior department is
no doubt trying to protect the
owners of coal and bay in this
country but the burden falls gen-
erally upon those who need the
protection.
