A BuBHxn. Last Thursday night
Bob Taylor happening to look ont of
his houso discovered some of his hay
stacks to bo on fire. Hastily mounting
his horso ho rode to tho spot but find-
ing no ono went down and took a stand
behind another rick waiting develop-
ments. Very soon a light flickered
and tho blato sprung up the side of a
rick some dlttanco away. Riding
rapidly he soon camo within sight of
tho man who was doing tbo mischief
and chased him into tho timber. The
night was moonlight and Mr. Taylor
got close enough to tbo man to identify
him as John B. Scott a neighbor living
a mile or two distant. As tho man
carried a Winchester and Taylor had
only a small rovolvor ho abandonod
tho pursuit. Several attempts have
hercloforo been made to burn Mr.
Taylor's improvements lndeod he
has lost a largo number of
posts rails etc. and he has
always mistrusted Scott as the perpe-
trator. About 200 tons of hay wero
consumed on this last occasion. A
warrant has been Issued for Scott and
it Is presumed ho will shortly bo ar-
rested. This burning businoss is get-
ting altogether too common and It Is a
means of rovengo which should bo
stnmpedout emphatically und cflect-
ually. Wo are told that somo years
ago Scott was sent to tho national
prison for making an assault upon his
father-in-law Mr. Duncan.
LATXtt.
On Monday nigbt Shcrifl Landrnm
went to Scott'c houso placed him un-
der arrest and left John Hawkins as
a guard until tho morning when it
was proposed to tako the prisonor be-
foro Olerk McGheo. Just aa they woro
about to start Hawkins told tkttto
go Into tbo houso alter Ills overcoat.
Uo went in but returned with a Win-
chester and accompanied by sovcrat
mombors of tbo family who wero also
armed. Tho officer was Informed-thai
ho could go his way and he did so.
