Tho supposition that William linn-
cock and Miss Ironside won t to (Jhelopa
to bo matrled proved incorrect. Tho
ceremony was performed by T. J.
McUhco clerk of Delaware district.
It has boon discovered that tho
district clerk did not send In the papers
in the Tittlo appeal case to' tho su-
preme court at the proper time. It
docs not therefore appear on the
docket.
S. II. Mayes and W. 1'. McOlcllan
both returned from tho St. Louis cat-
Mo market last Thursday. Hilt did not
havo much to say but Sam admitted
that ho could have sold for more money
at home.
Agent Uu'ges.i has discovered that
tho pond near tho Missouri Pacific
stock yards Is inhabited by a fair num-
ber of bull frogs and is making waron
them to tho dissatisfaction of the
hotel cooks.
Tho Chieitat.x office has a bill of fino
job stock just in and merchants need-
ing letterheads envelopes statements
etc. will find It to their interest to order
at once. We guarantee better stock
better work and tower prices than any
other shop in tho Indian Territory.
IlEWAttUKD. Some years ago a guest
at tho Capitol hotel Tahlcquah
dropped a "gold medal tho sizo of a
twenty-dollar gold pleco" through a
crack in tbe stono door step. After
considerable hard work had roccntly
bcon expended in removing tho stone
the parties wcro rewarded by finding a
"good for ono drink" check on a Texas
bar.
Wore Suspended. The Saginaw Cat-
tle comnanv which has a Icaso of the
northern portion of tho Sac and Fox
rcsorvo has suspended its fenciug oper-
ations ostensibly until next spring.
Their contract with tho Indians pro-
vided for the completion of this work
long ago. It is not Improbable that
this announced temporary suspension
is induced by the "signs of tho times.''
Prospects for Indian leasers aro cer-
tainty far from favorable at present.
Goon News. Many of our people
who frequently havo business with tho
Frisco agent at Peirco City will bo
pleased to leant that a chango has
been mado at that station. T. II.
Phelps who has mado himself conspic-
uously disagrccablo on so many
occasions goes to Fayettevillo and wo
sincerely sympathize with our friends
at that point. Most ol tho Frisco's
mon nro very obliging and courteous
but this ono proved an exception ot
no small magnitude.
MAVBLAuaiiTxit.-Tho celebrated Hem-
ington and Wells murder caso
terminated at Fort Smith ono day
last week by Wells entering a
plea of guilty of manglangbtor
rccolvlng three years at Detroit there
for whiio tho case against Remington
was not prosecuted by tho district at-
torney. They wcro charged with tho
murder of a farrnor named Hill at a
point In this territory near Ohetopa.

boon in chnrgo of tho Presbyterian
church at Oowala. Finding it Inex-
pedient to reside io far from his Hold

Services aro held In tho school houso
and the attendance Is said to frnquonU I
ly rcaclt ono hundred. Prospects for
tho church nro Haltering and our for-
mer townsman feels hlgbly encouraged
lie states that thoro Is not a more en
.lightened or wealthy class of people

TAiu.R4UAit Hotels. A glanco at our
advertising columns this wtok would
indicate that visitors at Tahlcquah
need havo tld fears as to hotel accomo-
dations. Tile National and Downing
both tip-top houses declaro themselves
as In readiness to meet all require-
ments. First class rooms and board
aro guaranteed at vory low rates Wo
bespoak for them a liberal patronage.
That Co.tTssT. No small amount of
activity has been displayed In some
quarters looking to tho defeat of MaJ.
Lipo for tho sonato. As to tho success
of tho undertaking wo havo uo predic-
tions ti raako. Shcrilf Cochran tells
us that thrro wcro somo violations of
tho stntuto in regard to tho disposition
of tho returns which with a reasonable
attempt on his part ho could not
remedy. Tho judges aflcr making Hie
count at the court houso neglected to
seal up tho rolls and the clerk refused
t'o'at onco dolivcr them to him. Ho
also says that the citation which ho
sorved did not contain tho signnture of
tho contcstor Mr. Ohnmbcrs nnd ho
has filed an affidavit setting forth this
fact. Ills conclusions aro that Mnj.
Lipo will bo given tho seat to which ho
holds a certificate.
Not Mubdeiird. It has been discov-
ered that tho man who boarded at
Luko Sixklllcr's and was supposed to
havo been murdered at fair timo two
years ago is alive. Ills namo is Tom
tiilspar and his homo is at Kurcka St.
Louis county Missouri. Ho was
heard of a short timo ago at El Dorado
Springs in that state. Why ho disap-
peared from hero so mysteriously
leaving ills personal effects bohind is
unknown. Doforo coming to Vinita
ho stayed for a timo near Carey's
Ferry whero his trunk was left. If wo
mistake Lot the fact of his being alivo
was ascertained by Mils trunk be-
ing BCnt for. Whito who is accused
of tho murder Is now lying in Fort
Smith jail awaiting trinl and his case
rs set for next month. The presenta
tion of his supposed victim In court
will put n now pliaso on tho caso and a
fortunate ono too for tho prisoner. Tho
circulation of tho story of the murder
by Annie Robinson can bo accounted
for in but two ways: Slio cither held
spite against Whito and her brother
said to bo accessory to tho crime or
someone elso was really killed. In
searching for the body of tho alleged
victim in tho locality indicated ns its
burial place a gcat deal of digging has
been dono without reward. Whether
tho story is n hoax or a reality seems
hard to determine.
What was his Fatb? Tho following
narrative although tho events trans-
pired somo weeks slnco is given us by
a gentleman just from Shawncetown.
J. O. Brown a white man holding
cattto near tho Kickapoo and Oklaho-
ma line was riding down North Fork
and passed a wagon containing threo
Indians cither Creeks or Ecminolcs.
Ho spoko and rode on when in an
instant ono of tho three grabbed a
Winchester and fired. The ball struck
Mr. Brown to ono sldo of tho back of
his head and glancing passed between
the scalp and skull and c.tmo out at
the forohend. He was stunned but in-
voluntarily and fortunately for him-
self clung to tho born of his saddle
and tho horso beintc frightened soon
carried him out of danger. Proceeding
quickly to Ills ranch Brown procured
asslstanco and returned at once in
search of his wonld-bo slayers. They
were found in camp and without dif-
ficulty subjected to a severe question-
ing. Tho ono who did tho shooting
was pointed out. In explanation of
his cowardly attempt at assassination
tho fellow said Brown looked like a
man who had monoy and ho intended
killing him to get it. Ho was taken
away from his companions into the
woods but what fato befel him is un-
knottn. Verj iittlo has been said of
tbo matter but tbo story is generally
known and no ono discredits it.
Txmpkramce Wonc A few frionds
of this cause met last week and after
somo consideration announced a pub-
lic meeting. It vvas held on Monday
evening at the Congregational church.
The houso was filled to its entire
capacity and throughout tho utmost
interest wss manifested. Rev. D. N.
Allen was mado chairman after which
Rev. N. M. Wheat offered a prayer.
Miss Durham read an essay on "The
Effects of intcraperauco on tho Homo"
which scorned to touch a sympathetic
chord in the hearts of all tho audience
D. W. 0. Duncan then occupied tho
marked attention of tho meeting for
thirty minutes. As was remarked by
a gentleman who followed this lecture
was an uncommonly good one. Drs.
Frazco and Fortner Mrs. Duncan and
others then followed with shorts talks.
After some discussion it was decided
to organize atumperanco society by tho
selection of an executive commlttco
which is to have chargo of tho work.
This committeo is mado upoTagentlo-
man and lady from each church of tho
city and also a geutloman and lady
from outside tho churches as follows:
From tbo Congregational church II.
II. Edmondson and Miss Ada Durham;
Methodist Dr. Fortner and Miss C. II.
Myers; Babtist Rev. PoBtcl and Mrs.
G W. Franklin; Presbyterian Dr.
Foreman and Mrs. Hello Stephens.
Uutsldo the church Dr. M. Frazco and
Mrs. W. L. Trott. Next meeting is to
bo held at tho Motbodfst church on
Monday evening November Oth and it
is expected that Dt. Fortner will lec-
ture on tho cuects of alcohol on tbo
human systom Tbo work has been
most auspiciously begun and- wo sin-
cerely hope it may bo continued with
unflagging zeal.
