Dlt. 1. F. KIOKSIf ON NATIONAL
HAITIST CONVENTION.
To the BapliHt Brotherhood of tho
State of Oklahoma:
Tho thirty-fifth session of tho Na-
tional Baptist Convention which con-
vened a few weeks ago In the city of
Chicago has passed into history.
This session of the convention was
quite a stormy one. Or. Boyd lead-
ing his forces with the Uov. 13. P.
Jones at ho head Anally pulled off
with a few of the delegates and some
of tho citizens of Chicago and organ-
ized a "Rump Convention." Okla-
homa stood pat with the National
Convention with the exception of
the good Dr. S S. Jones Revs. J. A.
Anderson S. P. Harrison president
of the Creek Baptist S. S. Convention
and probably Rev. Stephenson Mod-
orator of the Creek-Seminole Associa-
tion. This split in the National Conven-
tion means a split in the various
states for those who are for the Na-
tional Baptist Convention will not
stand to bo dragged Into the "Rump
Convention" notwithstanding our
President collected money from the
brethren on the way to Chicago for
the purpose of representing the State
in the National Convention but put
our money in that "Rump Conven-
tion." Some mean to rule or ruin and will
not be advised by any one. I nm
sure Oklahoma is not for the split
but I am writing this to inform the
Baptists of tho stato that they may
be on their guard that no man can
pull tho wool over your eyes and fool
you at the Stato Convention with a
fine flowery speech or address and
uinko you believe that tho "Rump
Convention" is tho National Conven
tion To prove to you that it is not;
the convention Dr. Bovd went into
the District Court and swore out an
injunction against Dr. Morris that he
bo not allowed to preside or in any
way have to do with the Convention.
This was served on Dr. Morris while
he was reading his Annual Address.
He had read it about half when the
sheriff stopped him and served the
notice. To the court house they
went and when the Judge heard the
evidence ho pronounced Dr. Morris
tho rightful presiding officer of the
National Baptist Convention. Then
off went Dr. Bovd and the few oth-
ers and our "little" President "S. S.
Jones" trotted off after them.
Some one may say that we are
fighting but we are not; just merely
telling the plain simple truth. Hvery
word of this article can be pi oven by
the Oklahoma delegation.
Dr. Morris wis enantuuvsly elect-
ed President of the Convelllon; and
after that "wrangling set" jjot out
p-icc and harmony permeated the
Convention.
Rev. K. P. Jones of Mississippi and
Sam Prince of Texas wore helped
down from tho plalfoim upon the toe
of someone's slice It is said. I do
not know how they got down but
they came off the platform in an un--s'ial
way; they were not particular
to return.
Will the Baptists oT Oklahoma
stand together or will you split your-
selves as'Midor? Vou have been
reading the papers and 1 am suroyou
are acquainted with conditions 'We.
must save the Publishing House for
the Baptists; and unless you stay
with tho National Baptist Conven-
tion you can not rave it. The Bap-
tists do not own very much there as
1 understand it for everything be-
longs to Dr. Boyd; but tho little we
do own we cannot control that. Wo
aro merely tivtng to uet In control of
our property If we have any. And If
we have none we want to know it so
wo can begin to arrange to purchase
and own some. 1 doubt very much
that we will own any of that that Is
said to bo ours for I think that the
Convention has slept almost too long.
But if it can bo gotten for the Bap-
tists Oklahoma Is here to do her part
In holplng to secure It; and no one
need think that because Rev. S. S
Jones President of the State
Convelllon joined tho "Rump Con-
vention" that ho has represented the
sentiment of the Baptists of this
stato. Ho only had the advantage
