DR. 1. F. KERSH OX NATIONAL
HAPTIST CONVENTION.
To the Baptist Brotherhood of the
State of Oklahoma:
The thirty-fifth session of the Na-
tional Baptist Convention which con-
vened a few weeks ago in the city of
Chicago has passed into history.
This session of the convention was
quite a stormy one. Dr. Boyd lead-
ing his forces with the Rev. E. I
Jones at he head finally pulled off
with a few of the delegates and some
of the citizens of Chicago and organ-
ized a "Rump Convention." Okla-

Convcn . y Tr vO-Mption 0f
the good ij. . r itfV' vn! vs. J. A.
Anderson S. Ko.tt.lVison tldent
of the Creek Baptist S. S. Con. "Mon
and probably Rev. Stephenson Mod-
orator of the Creek-Seminole Associa-
tion. This split in the National Conven-
tion means a split in the various
states for those who are for the Na-
i.onnl Baptist Convention will not
stand to be dragged into the "Rump
Convention" notwithstanding our
President collected money from the
brethren on the way to Chicago for
the purpose of representing the State
in the National Convention but put
our money in that "Rump Conven-
tion." Some mean to rule or ruin and will
not be advised by my one. I am
sure Oklahoma is not for the split
but I am writing this to inform the
Baptists of the state that they may
be on their guard that no man can
pull the wool over your eyes and fool
you at the State Convention with a
fine flowery speech or address and
make you believe that the "Rump
Convention" is the National Conven-
tion. To prove to you that it is not
the convention Dr. Boyd went into
the District Court and swore out an
injunction against Dr. Morris that he
be not allowed to preside or in any
way have to do with the Convention.
This was served on Dr. Morris while
he was reading his Annual Address.
He had read it about half when the
sheriff stopped him ami served the
notice. To the- court house they
wont and when the Judge heard the
evidence he pronounced Dr. Morris
the. rightful presiding ofllcc of the
National Baptist Conventir Then
off went Dr. Boyd and tl ew oth-
ers and our "little" Pre- ' nt "S. S.
Jones" trotted off afte em.
Some one may sa aat wo are
fighting but we are ust merely
telling the plain si ? ' -uth. Every
word of this artim'" o proven by
the Oklahoiv '' m?' .
Dr. M . uimously elect
ed Presulent' ot the Conveition; and
aftor that "wrangling sot" got out
neace and harmony permeated the
Convention.
Rev. E. P. Jones of Mississippi and
Sam Prince of Texas were helped
down from the platform upon the toe
of someone's Hhoe it is said. I do
not know how they got down but
they came off the platform in an un-
usual way; they were not particular
to return.
Will the Baptists of Oklahoma
stand together or will you split your-
selves asunder? You have been
reading the papers and I am sure you
are acquainted with conditions. We.
must save the Publishing House for
the Baptists; and unless you stay
with the National Baptist Conven-
tion you can not save it. Tho Bap-
tists do not own very much there as
I understand it for everything be-
longs to Dr. Boyd; but the little we
do own wo cannot control that. Wo
are merely trying to get in control of
our property if we have any. And if
we have none we want to know it. so
wo can begin to arrange to purchase
and own some. I doubt very much
that wo will own any or that that is
said to be ours for I think that the
Convention has slept almost too long.
But if it can bo gotten for tho Bap-
tists Oklahoma is here to do her part
In helping to secure it; and no one
need think that because Rev. S. S.
Jones President of tho State
Conveition joined tho "Rump Con-
vention" that he has represented the
sentiment of the Baptists of this
state. Ho only had tho advantage
because lie brethren trusted him
with t'j money and ho of his own ac-
cord i&iu-od It in that "Rump Con-
vention. Men may mis-use the peo-
ple's money for a while but will not
fool them all the time and mis-use
their means. I can see tho hand-
writing on the wall for some men
now. And I can see some great ruler
whose power has reached out and
covered some portion of the earth
trembling in his knees and his eyes
are rolling in every direction. He
has sent out for his wise men to come
and interpret. But your men will
fool you. God yet lives in Zion and
He will have you interpret tho hand-
writing at the proper time. A hint
to the wise is sufficient.
Let every church in the state that
is interested in the denomination
work as a unit meet us in Okmulgee
Wednesday before the 4th Lord's Day
in October lit 15. Come praying;
come to do the will of our Heavenly
Father.
Yours for success
J. F. KERSH
President State Sunday School Con-
vention. P. S. -Mr. Editor this article
must be published and Oklahoma
Baptists must know the truth. There
is an effort being made to hide these
facts from tho people.
If anyone has any reasons why
Oklahoma should follow tho "Rump
Convention" let them tell It. I
know that you will be fair to let all
speak. Tho issue must not be
dodged. Oklahoma Is either for or
against wheih tho "National" or
"Rump Convention."
