which the white south
ever has d e vise d for the
humiliation ol self respecting
Negroes. .the Jim Ciow car is
the most infamous. Natu
rally the worst sufferers from
them are colored women
whom while southerners have
studiously sought to degrade
and insult for nearly lljree cen-
turies. It is s.ud that the progress of
the race in culture and christian
character is noted by the con-
sideration which is shown its
NWomen. by the men of the race.
Kven the moiety of sympathy
which the South has been able
to excite in connection with its
brutal lyuchings. has been
gained solely on account of the
plea which it makes that it is
acting in defense of it women.
Negro men should yield to
none in their determination to
force .a decent res peri for their
w'oiucu. A f rii A m e r i ca ns
nothing can excuse you from
your duty in making the at-
tempt to wipe out the ''Jim
Crow'' car. You are no longer
slaves and powerless but free
and able to act if you will to do
ho. Let there begin at once a
widespread far reaching con-
certed and purposeful effort
among colored men (if every
class throughout (he United
Stales to test these laws lie-
member. ''the eyes of the world
are upon you.'' Remember
if vou do not act in .LJieir behalf
you will put. upon colored wo-
men the necessity of protecting
themselves from this iniquity.

THIRD DISTRICT COMMITTEE WILL
MEET AT VINITA MONDAY
JANUARY 27.
S. G. Victor chairman of the
Third disfiict congressional
committee has issiued a call for
a meeting of his committee to
be held at Vinita Monday. Jan-
uary 27 at which time and
place for holding the district
convention will be decid d
upon. At the district conveu
lion a candidate for congress
will be nominated and the two
dist rid delegates to the nat ional
convention will be named.
FOUND DEAD
BED.
IN
J. M. Lewis the Negro real
estate man who was found
dead in bed in a house at the
rear of 70( Denver street was
not. murdered as was Mrs! re-
ported. The investigation
made by coroner Bloom disclos -
ed the fact that Lewis died from
natural causes.
Lewis had not been seen
about his accustomed haunts
for several days and his friends
decided to make an invest ita-
tiou. His room was entered1
and lie was lound dead in bed.
A small gas stove was going at.
full blast and the room was so
intensely hot that decomposition
of the body bad already set in.
Lewis was a well known
character in Muskogee having
in turn been hotel proprietor
undertaker real estate dealer
and fit v dog catcher. Of late
his health has been bad and 1iolaIlovt1 lo secure renewals of
has been unable to do any
manual labor.
The dead man has a wife
now being on visit lo her
parents at Sutler. Oklahoma.
All subscribers to the Cimeter
must pay up when their sub
scriptions expire. We will take
advantage of the year limit as
prescribed by law.
The call has been issued for
Stale Republican convention to
co vene at Ok la! oma City
March 11 1908 and for the
Congressional Commit lee to
meet at Vinita on January 27.
The pot is getting hot and will
soon boil over.
If the men who are making
Mich strenuous strides tojim
crow the Negro would be as
anxious for SEPARATE BEDS
for the races it Would "show
they were honest at heart.
Put the scoundrels fail to speak
when that question is presided.
The light for equal rights
under the law is a just one and
one that the Negroes must light
to the last ditch.
Democrats are perfecting; I In ir
organization preparatory to
to going to battle. Republicans
should not lag.

amendments lo the Postal laws
and regulations dated Decem-
ber -I 1907.
"A reasonable time will bo
subscriptions but unless sub-
scriptions are expressly renewed
after the term for which thev
are paid within the following
periods:
Dailies within three months
weeklies within one year they
shall not be counted in the
legitimate list of subscribers
and copies mailed on accouiiL
thereof shall not be accepted
for mailing at the second class
postage rate of one cent a
pund. but may be mailed at
the transient second-class rate
of one cent for each four ounces
or fraction thereof prepaid by
stamps affixed. The right of a
publisher to extend credit for
subscriptions to his publications
is not denied or questioned but
his compliance or noncompli-
ance with the regulation will bo
taken into consideration in de-
termining whether the publica-
tion is entitled to transmission
at the second class postage
rates."

have organized an Miti-jim
crow league and are raising
funds to push the fight to a
conclusion. Two men contri-
buted 100 each and others from
$1.00 up. The money will he-
