A plcasajit Couture of tho congres-
Blonul purtlos that inako journeys
abroad Ih the fact thnt Dan Cupid
seems always to bo a passenger. Ho
went to tho Philippines and threo
matches resulted. Mr. Longworth of
Ohio; Mr. Cockran of New York and
Mr. Sherley of Kentucky all surren-
doied to inlluences insuring their hap-
piness for life. And now the steamer
lJluechor is no sooner docked on her
return with tho Cannon party from
tho West Indies than the engagement
of two of tho company is announced.
What is it that makes love the pre-
vailing and compelling topic at such
times? asks the Washington Sta.r.
Doeaji discussion of Uncle Sam's now
responsibilities lead to it? Or does tint
delightful imprisonment on shipboard
explain it? Whatever the explanation
the fact exists and it may result in
making such .trips exceedingly popu-
lar. Tho curiosity of congress as to
our outlying possessions may como to
ovorshadow everything else.

United States should have an over-
whelming navy will Indorse tho theory
or Admiral "I3ob" Evans that we
should have battleshlts and fleet tac-
tics in the Pacific as well as In the At-

ItB proper proportions I bellevo we
should have 1G battleships on tho At-
lantic and 1G on the PaclMc" says tho
udmlral. Then wo could defy the
world!

A rich man out in the suburbs who
owns a largo place has among the
many people employed to keep It in
Bhape an Irishman of whom he is par-
ticularly fond on account of his un-
conscious wit says Harper's Weekly.
This Irishman Is something of a hard
drinker and as his Income Is limited
ho is more particular as regards the
quantity than the quality of his
liquids. The other day tho employer
who had been awaiting a good oppor-
tunity remarked in a kind tone as
the closing sentence of a friendly lec-
ture: "Now Pat how long do you think
you can keep on drinking this cheap
whiskey?"
To which Pat instantly replied:
"All my llfo If It doesn't kill me."

Corporations Oust Miners.
The Klondike proper that Is that
portion of tho Yukon territory In tho
vicinity of Dawson as far as tho in-
dividual miner Is concerned is on a
rapid decline owing to tho immense
area of ground being acquired by
dredging companies. One company
alone has purchased nearly all the
placer ground on tho three principal
creeks namely: Bonanza Eldorado
and Hunker and has bonded consid-
erably more on Dominion and other
creeks for various reasons. Where
formerly hundreds of miners were
working for wages or working their
own ground thus creating a demand
for provisions clothing machinery
hardware etc. and the transportation
from Dawson to tho different mining
operations now dredges are either op-
erating or in course of construction.

AFRAID OF PARALYSIS
A NERVOUS SUFFERER CURED
BY OR. WILLIAMS' PINK PILLS.
Tho Medicine That Makes Rich Red
Blood and Performs Wonders as .
Tonic for the Nerves. (
Why are nervous people Invariably
pale people?
The answor to that question explains
whya romedy that acts on the blood
can euro nervous troubles.
It explains why Dr. Williams1 Pink
Pills for Palo Peoplo are also for nervous
people
It is because of tho intimate relation
between tho red corpuscles in the blood
and tho health of tho nerves. The
nervous system receives its nourishment
through the blood. Let tho blood be
como thin weak and colorless and the
nerves aro starved the victim is started
on tho road that leads to nervous wreck.
Nervous people aro palo people but the
pallor comes first. Enrich the blood'
and tho nerves aro stimulated and toned
up to do their part of tho work of the
body. Dr. Williams' Pink Pills make
red blood aud transform nervous irrit-
able ailing people into strong energetic
forceful men and women.
Mrs. Harriet E. Porter of 20 Liberty
avenue South Medford Mass. says:
'I had nevor been well from ohild-
hood and a few years ago I began to
havo dizzy spells. At such times I could
not walk straight. I was afraid of
paralysis and was on tho verge of
nervous prostration. Then neuralgia
sot in and affected the side of my face.
Tho pains in my forehead were excru-
ciating and my heart pained me so thai
my doctor feared neuralgia of tho heart.
I tried several different kinds of treat-
ment but they did mo no good.
" One day my son brought me some of
Dr. Williams' Pink Pills and I found
that thoy strengthened my nerves. I
took soverai boxes and felt better la
every way. There were no more dizzy
attacks the neuralgia left mo audi have
been a well woman ever since."
Dr. Williams' Pink Pills aro invaluable
in amemia rhoumatism after-effects of
the grip and fevers and in sick head-
aches norvousness neuralgia and even
partial paralysis and locomotor ataxia.
