do not starch. When dry dip In bora
ter using ouo tablospoonful of
borax to one quart of warm water.
Wring out and fold in a towol tor a
few hours. Then Iron dry. The
walata will not got mussed nearly m
oon as when starched and are easier
to Iron. When Ironing use a small
Iron. Sprinkle somo orris powder un-
der the Ironing sheet and you will
nod that It will give a delicate per.
fume to the waists.
To have a nice smooth starch put
a few drops of kerosene In and stir un-
til blended with the starch. It will
pi event tho starch from sticking.
When washing ery delicate fabrics
such as mull organdy net lace etc
stiffen with gum arable. Dissolve the
gum in hot water to a consistency of
mucilage and keep bottled for use.
Add a tablespoon to a large cup of
water.
Elaborate net walsta are best clean-
ed aa follows: Fill a two-quart fruit
can with gasoline put the waist to be
cleaned In this screw the top on well
and let stand overnight. In tho morn-
ing shake tho can back and forth. The
motion will churn the dirt from the
waist If much soiled rinse In fresh
gasoline. Hang on the lino until all
odor has disappeared. Shake well and
press with a warm iron.. Net yokes
and sleeves can bo very successfully
dry cleaned by rubbing gently In pul-
verized laundry starch and then shak-
ing the Btarch out.
To clean tho laco yoke of a gown
without ripping It out place under tho
laco a clean Turkish bath towel folded
to several thicknesses then scrub the
lace well. An embroidery hoop Is also
of assistance and protection when
cleaning a oko. Put tho soiled part
of tho )oko In tho hoop and clcau.
Tomato Saltd.
With tho plump crimson "love ap-
plo" at Its best tomato salad may
well grace tho family board at fre-
quent Intervals. Select solid ripe to-
matoes of even size and pour ocr
them boiling water enough to cover.
Pe! and put on Ice. Whon chilled
cut off a sllco from tho stem end
and with a spoon handle scoop out
tho center of tho tomato. Cut some
celery flno and mix with a mayonnaise
or boiled drossing and fill the tomato
allowing It to come well over the top.
Arrange nests of tender lettuce leaves
on a dish put a little mayonnaise
on each and tho tomato In the cen-
ter of tho dressing pressing It down
so that tho dressing will spread out
beyond the tomato.
Planked Chicken.
For two spring chickens which will
serve four persons a cupful of boiled
rice Is required half a pound of mush-
rooms one small tumbler of guava
Jelly and three baked bananas. Stew
the mushrooms; put tho chicken eith-
er In tho oven or under the broiler
bono side to tho hottest part of the
flro. Heat the plank put tho chicken
on bono sldo down dust with ealt
nnd pepper and broil on the board
under the gas for half an hour; gar-
nish with rice; pour over tho mush-
rooms. Placo at tho corners small
bread patties boldlug tho guava Jelly.
Placo at the sldo the bananas and
send Instantly to the table.
Fish Chowder.
Fry out dry In tho dtnnor pot some
thin slices of pork; "itt In a layer of
potatoes sliced In tho samo way; also
somo Ilsh; repeat In the same order
until all Is In tho pot putting somo
pepper and salt on each layer of po-
tatoes; split somo hard biscuits dip In
water and put them around the sides
and over tho top; put In water enough
to come Into sight. Stew until the po-
tatoes are done and add half a pint of
milk or a teacup of sweet cream be-
fore taking up.
Stuffed Ebb-
For six hard-boiled eggs take one
cup of finely chopped cooked meat one
tablespoon melted butter one-quarter
cup of sweet cream. Season to taste.
Cut tho eggs In halves carefully take
out jolke-und mix to a smooth paste
with the melted butter. Add tho meat
and seasoning mix with tho cream
gradually as it may not all be needed.
Stuff the eggs with this mixture press
together and roll In egg and bread
crumbs. Fry In hot fat.
Spotless Linens.
To remove a spot that Is liable to be
made on a clean tablecloth fold a
towel smoothly under the spot and put
a bowl under It beneath the soiled
part of the cloth. Pour boiling water
through a little at a time until the
stain disappears. Boak up part of the
water with another towel and lay the
wet piece smooth on the under towel
Cover and dry with a hot Iron.
Fish Salad.
Left-over boiled or baked fish niaf
be used In an appetizing salad. Pick
apart the larger pieces so that the
fish will be flaky. Sprinkle over It a
little onion Juice and chopped "parsley
and tots with criap lettuce leaves la
French dressing. Mayonnaise drea

like It
