Preud of Elgin Com muni ty
Never were we so proud of the
good people of Elgin and sur-
rounding country &j on the night
of the Flag Day celebration and
entertainment.
Immediately after "casting our
fot" in this beautiful little city
we discovered that its citizenship
and that of the surrounding
communities was of a high moral
and intellectual standard. So
far as we know there has not
been even so much as a suspicion
of a bootlegger gambler or any
of their accompaning evils and
effects since our advent into this
a .
enarmtng uttie city. And we
venture to say without fear of
successful contradiction that
Elgin has at least as large a per
cent of church-going people as
any town or city within the
State.
The successful carrying out of
the program Saturday night
more than verified our favorable
opinion of the good people here.
No town of its size in Oklahoma
could have excelled Elgin in de-
portment natural ability and
literary attainment as displayed
in and during the Flag Day pro-
gram Saturday night.
Considering the very busy
harvest time and the short notice
of the meeting there was a sur-
prising large concourse present
and scarcely a break in the pro-
gram. Almost every speaker
responded and with credit to
themselves and honor to the
community they represented.
We very much regret that we
have not the space to go into de-
tail and mention each individual
that so loyally took part in
the program and mention the
many historical facts brought
out regarding our beloved flag
and what it stand for. Every
word seemed to be electrified
with the highest sense of patri-
otism and natural unaffected
eloquence.
The band and singers did well
their part clearly proving that
Elgin and surrounding country
is also blessed with much musi-
cal ability.
We suggest that it would be a
good thing to hold a general
