ye advise those who have
small grain to put their disc
J harrows to work just as soon as
').r ov p is harvested and thus

unoccupied ground the same way.
j We fully realize that all farm-
ers have not the force to carry
out all of these suggestions; but
they should come as near doing
it as possible. Those who do
will be the gainers in proportion
to their ability .to meet these
requirements.
Fine Crop Prospects
Never do we remember of the
fertil soils of this part of the
State being more thoroughly sat-
urated with moisture at this
season of the year than at the
present time. The precipitation
since Friday evening has averag-
ed about four inches; and to
make a good thing still better
it remained cloudy for five days
and nights giving the water an
opportunity to all soak into the
ground of well cultivated fields
as well as to prevent rust of
wheat and oats.
Although we had nearly three
weeks of very dry atmosphere
hard winds and scorching sun
shine to pump vast quantities of
the water out of the ground
especially where not kept clean
of weeds and sufficiently stirred
to keep a soil-mulch of some
three inches on the surface the
season so far has been almost an
ideal one inasmuch as it has
given the industrious farmers an
opportunity to prepare a good
Beed-bed get the seed in the
ground and keep it thoroughly
cultivated and clean. Therefore
with the exception of the wheat
and oats harvest the late rains
found crops generally in fine
condition for it and the great
benefit largely exceeds what lit-
tie damage may have been done
to the small grain.
Now aB an expert in these
matters having delved deep
into their fundamentals and de-
tails we desire to offer a few
suggestions to the farmers gen-
erally viz:
Do everything in your power
to save this moisture you will
need it before the season is over.
Start your cultivators just as
soon as the surface of the ground
is dry enough to pulverize nicely.
Get over it as soon as you can
without injury to yourselves and
eams and then do your resting
afterwards if possible.
If rain does not come again
within ten days go over it again
immediately.
If rain does come repeat the
' operation and as often as it
comes.
Keep up this method of culti-
vation until your crops are ma-
