will" determination can accomp-
lish wonders. Now let each in-
dividual citizen work for a Great-
er Elgin.

Now that the good people of
this beautiful little town have
at last come to their senses and
agreed to act like men and

Eluin has been highly honoied by
the selection of one of its citizens be-
ing selected as Department Comman-
der of the Grand At my of the Repub-
lic for Oklahoma in the person of our
esteemed citizen L. C. Coffin.
Mr. Collin was born on French
Mountain near Lake George New
York February 23rd 18 IS. His fa-
ther died when he was six yeais of
age leaving his mother with a fam-
ily of six children to support.
He enlisted in 18GI and in order
that he would not have to secure tin
consent of his mother he chose hi
First Lieutenant ns his guardian. His
company was soon attached to the
J 75th New York Infantry and he was
with that rrgiiiwnt in nil its wander-
ings at Harper's Ferry at Fisher's
Kill and Cedar Cieek with Sheridan
