Spiced Oatmeal Cakes. Heat one-
fourth of a cupful of ii'iolasses to boil-
ing; add three tanlcspoonfuls of fat;
ndd one-half cupful of cooked oatmeal
and one and a "half cupfuls of flour
one-fourth of a cupful of sugar the
same of raisins one-half teaspoonful
of baking powder and one-fourth of
n teasvoouful of soda one-hnlf tea-
spoonful of cinnamon; beat well und
bcke In nmflln pans thirty minutes.
Tills makes one dozen cakes.

Pickled Onions. I'm smnll white
pickling onions Into n Jar after peeling
them; add mixed spices and coter with
good vinegar that has been boiled and
'ooli'd using ono tablespoonful of
brown sugar to a quart of vinegar.

fuls of sponge-cake crumbs and brown
In the oven. Place In sherbet glasses
and cover with fruit sirup; sene gar-
nlshed with n spoonful of whipped
cream of marshiiit'lluws cut In bits

Harn Tomato Toast. Fry n tnhle-
spoonful of minced pepper and half ta-
hlrspoonfnl of minced onion In two ta-
blespoonfuls of butter; ndd two tnhle-
spooufuls of tlour n teaspoonful of su-
gnr one-hnlf tenspoonful of salt and n
few dashes of pepper one cupful of
tomnto puree and a hnlf cupful .of
minced ham. Serve hot on well-but-tcrcd
toast.
Baked. Beans With Apples. Soak
and purholl one nnd ti half pounds of
beans ns Usual then when the skin
wrinkles nnd curls put them with an
onion Into the henn pot with a half-
cupful of bncon fnt or ham fat two
chopped apples and a tablespoonful of
snlt. Bnrely cover with water In
which n tablesponful of molnsses nnd a
half-teospoonful of mustard have been
mixed nuke covered for three hours
then rcmoye tho cover and placo over-
lapping slices of apple on top and bake
until the npplo Is cooked.

dashes of paprika three tablespoon-

few spoonfuls of whipped cream ho
